Job Summary

The Business Development Specialist creates value for the Anne Arundel County (AACo) business ecosystem. Responsible for interacting with businesses in AACo and outlying areas to understand their needs and exploring potential solutions, through verbal, written, and electronic means; resulting in, the creation of new relationships and strengthen existing ones. The Business Development Specialist will provide innovative solutions with/for businesses, answer general inquiries, perform data entry in various systems, prepare information for reports, and represent AAWDC at events as needed. The Business Development Specialist must be outgoing, detail-oriented, comfortable working with a variety of business representatives at all levels and possess the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Meets with businesses to explore their needs and develops and implements innovative solutions.
  • Participates in community outreach.
  • Develops and nurtures partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides information about open positions to internal recruitment and sourcing staff.
  • Regularly assesses program results and adjusts where necessary to achieve set goals.
  • Attends and participates in events and meetings that support AAWDC initiatives.
  • Works with communications and outreach department to ensure AAWDC's website is up to date.
  • Assists with the development and planning of business-driven and business-to-business events.
  • Promotes workforce initiatives and opportunities with employers that creates value to business.
  • Conducts research to help businesses address issues and thrive.
  • Comfortable working with business leaders at all levels.
  • Provides monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Ensures initiative goals and required performance measures are met or exceeded.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Business Sales, or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Business-to-business outreach experience required.
  • Business-to-business sales experience and Workforce Development experience preferred.
  • Business development and networking skills.
  • Collaborative working style and highly organized.
  • Ability to work in a positive environment and be coachable.
  • Possess an outgoing personality.
  • Capability to articulate the organization's models, processes, and values.
  • Strong business driven focus and communication skills including empathetic listening, clear and accurate writing, and persuasive oral communication.
  • Skills to identify gaps/problems, develop comprehensive creative solutions, and create value.
  • Commitment to innovation, collaboration, excellence, teamwork, and creating value for businesses.

Work Environment

  • General office environment
  • General office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm, with flexibility to fulfill 35 hours per week. This schedule may vary depending on program needs.
  • Position may require evening and weekend hours as determined by departmental needs.
  • Position may require local travel within Anne Arundel County
  • Position may qualify for telework, dependent on departmental and organizational needs.


Physical Demands

  • This position requires movement about the inside the office to access files, office machinery etc.
  • This position requires ability to move (with assistance) tables weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to move chairs up to 15 pounds without assistance.
