Job description
The Center for Health Leadership and Practice at the Public Health Institute (PHI) operates the largest AmeriCorps VISTA sponsorship in the Western Region. Our 60+VISTA members work in communities across California to tackle two of the biggest public health challenges of our generation: overdose prevention and COVID-19 response. Up to 23 AmeriCorps member serve organizations throughout California to improve their operational capacity of organizations in addressing issues directly and indirectly connected to the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective communities. As an AmeriCorps VISTA Lead, your assignment will be at the hub of operations for the Center for Health Leadership and Practice at the Public Health Institute in Oakland, CA (fully remote). Through virtual interactions, you will support AmeriCorps VISTA members to develop professional and technical skills to support organizations in the COVID-19 Response Program to help strengthen local impact. AmeriCorps VISTA members will look to you to stay current on issues they may be facing at a site, assure that local organizations are providing clear direction, and work with them to convey the story of California communities that are regaining control over a pandemic and the associated resulting equity and justice issues. Both you and the state will benefit as you learn about public health strategies and best practices that can be leveraged to fight health crises. The AmeriCorps VISTA leaders program is open to members who have completed at least one year of full-time service with AmeriCorps or Peace Corps.
CA COVID Impact Initiative: AmeriCorps Leader (Remote)
Member Duties : Examples of projects led by current VISTA Leads:•Recruit and onboard AmeriCorps members into host sites•Assess AmeriCorps members professional development goals and skill base needed to build local capacity •Design and produce written plan for AmeriCorps VISTA learning network, professional development curriculum and support structure•Develop, maintain and analyze AmeriCorps member database of local activities and program participation•Conduct individual mentorship and support calls with AmeriCorps members in the field•Develop and coordinate virtual learning and networking opportunities for AmeriCorps members at statewide and regional convenings•Develop and distribute recommended list of AmeriCorps members capacity-building projects•Collect and summarize metrics for AmeriCorps progress reports•Lead production program webinars •Work closely with other AmeriCorps program leads in managing and supporting the CHLP AmeriCorps VISTA Hub pipeline.
