POSITION TITLE: Cagewash Technician II

LOCATION: FDA White Oak Facility, New Hampshire Ave.

SUPERVISOR: Cagewash Foreman

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Cagewash Foreman, the Cagewash Technician shall have the physical strength and dexterity to handle cages, racks, pans, feed bags, carts, dollies, and other equipment. They shall be able to recognize and understand the difference between clean, sanitized, and sterile equipment. They should be able to work with chemicals and heavy machinery. The Cagewash Technician shall maintain accurate logs and maintain the cleanliness of the facility.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

*As a contractor at a Federal Government facility, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for this job.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • All Cagewash Technician’s shall train and become ALAT certified within 1 year of employment.
  • These persons shall have some knowledge of sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization. Previous cagewash experience is a plus.
  • Candidates must possess a command of the English language both written and verbal in order to effectively communicate with scientific investigators on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

Essential Duties:

  • Clean, sanitize, or sterilize caging or equipment utilizing automated cagewash machines, autoclaves, bottle fillers, and bedding dump stations.
  • Dispose of waste in compliance with NIH “Guide” and federal/state regulations.
  • Clean and sanitize cagewash and ancillary areas.
  • Minor/preventative maintenance of caging and equipment.
  • Movement/delivery of feed/bedding sacks, cages, racks, pans, carts, dollies, and other equipment.
  • Assure that procedures and practices involving the program of animal care are appropriate for the Continued maintenance of AAALAC accreditation of the facility.
  • Adhere to security procedures and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ensure performance of activities in adherence with established SOPs.
  • Participate in the ongoing employee training program, with special emphasis on safety and health training, safe work practices, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform job tasks/duties in compliance with GLP’s and “The Guide for the Care and Use”, policies, regulations, safety, and security procedures.
  • Perform work in compliance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Adherence to equipment sanitation and sterilization schedules.
  • Assure that records, log books, and other project records are appropriately and contemporaneously maintained.
  • Compliance with the QA/QC program.
  • Recommend changes in operational procedures that might increase the efficiency or effectiveness of work procedures or practices.
  • Observe and report any abnormalities in equipment or facilities to their supervisor or project manager.
  • Perform cleaning, sanitation, sterilization, and environmental monitoring tasks in accordance with established SOPs.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Other related duties as assigned

Lifting/Moving Requirements – up to 50 pounds

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Animal care and technical duties will be performed mainly indoors in an animal care vivarium, barrier facility, surgical or test procedure laboratory facility, or animal housing/bedding cleaning and processing areas. Work may require use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in these facilities. Laboratory environment and/or animal care work areas may be prone to hot and humid conditions, and subject to objectionable odors, aerosols, dust, animal dander, and noise.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift

All positions require the use of full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn in order to perform daily job duties. Our staff practice social distancing protocols. Proof of COVID-19 vaccine is required for all Federal Government contract positions.

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Heavy equipment operation: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Commercial cleaning: 2 years (Preferred)
  • disinfection/sanitization: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Stocking/organization: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Autoclaves: 2 years (Preferred)

Language:

  • English (Required)
