CAMP COUNSELOR & BIRTHDAY PARTY TEAM MEMBER

LOCATION: Newtown, CT

DEPARTMENT: YOUTH PROGRAMS

REPORTS TO: YOUTH PROGRAM DIRECTOR

STATUS: PART-TIME

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Camp Counselor & Birthday Party Team Member will facilitate games and activities for children ages 5-12 years old during any one of NYA’s youth programs and/or events – Summer Camp, Birthday Parties, School Holiday Camps, After-School Programs. Counselors will lead a variety of sports/PE activities and ensure that participants have a positive, enjoyable, safe and FUN experience. Counselors are responsible for maintaining safety procedures and communicating effectively with children and parents.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

· Leads, and implements sports/PE games and activities for children

· Supervises youth participants and ensures their safety, participation, comradery, and overall engagement

· Maintains a schedule for camp/event participants

· Organizes and leads various small and large group activities

· Set-up and break-down of event/program equipment and space and ensures proper cleanliness

· Assists in maintaining accurate event/program records including, incident reports, sign-in/sign-out, registration and payment verification

· Mediates and reports participant disputes

· Knows, enforces, and follows all safety and procedure guidelines associated with event/program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of a variety of recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills and instruction; and knowledge of sports rules and regulations
• Ability to work with and communicate well with children ages 5-12 years old and their parents as well as other staff
• Ability to lead and involve participants in various sports activities
• Ability to provide first aid and emotional support and assistance to children ages 5 -12
• CPR and first aid certifications required upon offering

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high

· May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions while performing job functions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• Day shift
• Holidays
• Weekend availability
