General Information
- The Office of Residence Life at James Madison University is accepting applications for a graduate Case Manager. The Office of Residence Life is committed to designing and maintaining a caring environment that encourages academic success, respect, personal growth and responsibility to one’s community.
- The graduate Case Manager reports the Associate Director of Residence Life for Community Development. Graduate stipend of $9,067 plus tuition remission for 9 hours per semester.
- The graduate Case Manager will assist with tracking residential students in distress in collaboration with Associate Director of Residence Life and Dean of Students Office. Collaborate on necessary welfare check-ins and follow up.
Duties and Responsibilities
Case Management
- Assist with tracking residential students in distress in collaboration with Associate Director of Residence Life and Dean of Students Office.
- Collaborate on necessary welfare check-ins and follow up.
Psychoeducational programming, program planning and implementation
- Outreach events with residence hall staff teams on topics such as mental health, resilience, self management and self care.
- Outreach events in residence halls on topics such as mental health, resilience, self management and self care.
Consultation to the Residential Community
- Residential professional staff (Area Directors, Associate Director)
- Residential student staff – various evenings, as needed, individual or group/staff
- Roommate/suitemate/floor group needing support
Teaching and training
- GA assists in training of all Residence Life hall staff members, in particular hall director and resident advisor training held annually in August.
Advising
- Individual – residence hall staff
- Group – residence hall staff teams and/or roommate/suitemate/floor groups
Qualifications
Must be enrolled as a graduate student at JMU for the academic year 2023-24.
Strong interpersonal and administrative skills preferred. Experience in college student leadership/advising preferred, e.g. resident adviser, peer educator, peer adviser, camp counselor.

Conditions of Employment
Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:
- The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.
- The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or agency
After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.
