ROLE SUMMARY
The Nursing Assistant Certified Residency is a 6-week program approved by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) as a certified training program. The participant will receive 4 weeks of in-classroom lecture and hands on skill building, 2 weeks of clinical rotation plus 1-day of a written and skills pre-testing day in preparation for the Washington state written and skills test. This program prepares the participant to sit for the state board exam which includes a written test and skills test.
While the student is awaiting a test date and licensure, they will be utilized by the hospital in the following ways:
- Assist licensed healthcare staff in a variety of ways in the patient care setting, taking direction from staff RN’s, LPN’s, Nurse Managers and other leaders.
- Transports patients to and from service and treatment areas using wheelchairs or moveable beds.
- Provides observation and minimal assistance with a constant focus on safety in the medical and suicidal patient population.
- As Unit Secretary.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains perfect attendance
- Maintains an overall 80% GPA in the program.
- Comply with all program standards and guidelines.
- Completes all assigned training classes.
- Understands and demonstrates the NAC Scope of Practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to perform basic clinical skills specific to NAC practice.
- Demonstrates personal awareness of own values, beliefs and the influence of ability to advocate for patient and family.
- Agrees to obtain a test date within 4 weeks for the NAC licensing exam for the course completion to become certified with the State of Washington DOH.
- Once the participant is licensed, agrees to work 1000 hours for Yakima Valley Memorial.
- Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, notification of the licensed nurse when patient behavior/activities change to insure patient safety.
- May assist ambulatory patients in wheelchairs, and assist a core transporter with moving beds.
- Provide constant observation to those requiring a 1:1 sitter, working with the patient care team to ensure seamless safety coverage.
- Demonstrates respect and compassion for all patients, patient family members, and staff.
- Demonstrates punctuality and attentiveness to schedule.
- Transports equipment and supplies and delivers them to assigned treatment areas and patient care areas.
- Documents accurately and efficiently all patient behaviors and activities at the time intervals set by policy related to the type of sitter service being provided.
- Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate team member in order to improve patient outcomes and maintain patient safety.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Math/English Competency Test.
Experience: Previous healthcare experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Heart Associate BLS required.
