Seeking a motivated and experienced assistant/technician for an ophthalmic medical office, in a newly established, unique practice, within a pleasant and friendly work environment. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new and growing practice. Applicant is required to be friendly, reliable, punctual, able to multitask, have excellent communication and computer skills. Receptive to constructive feedback and ability to learn new tasks. You will be involved in working up patients, performing diagnostic tests, and assisting in office procedures. In addition, you will assist with front desk duties. This will include checking in and out patients, scheduling patients, taking payments, and answering phone calls when needed.

Location: Biloxi, MS

Hours: This job is a full-time 40 hours/week position. 2 weeks (10 days) of paid vacation per year after working 6 months in addition to roughly 10 paid holidays a year.

Education & Experience:

- High School graduate minimum

- Prior experience in an eye clinic required (optometry or ophthalmology office)

- COA certification preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Ability to multi-task

- Meticulous attention to detail

- Quick learner with interest to expand

- Self-motivated with strong work ethic

- Organization and time management skills

- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team

- Strong computer skills - must be able to type at least 40 words/min

- Working knowledge of provider reimbursement and payment methodologies

- Experience in ophthalmic billing and coding preferred but not required if willing to learn

- Ability to take initiative, identify and address tasks without prompting, meet deadlines, and follow through an assignment

Specific Job Responsibilities:

- Obtaining medical and ocular histories

- checking vision, IOP, and performing refractions

- Diagnostic testing - OCT, Visual Fields, etc

- Scheduling office appointments and surgeries

- Explain consent forms to patients

- Maintain office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies

- Work closely with other office members cooperatively to learn and improve practice

- Checking in and checking out patients

- Obtain, record, and update personal and financial information

- Obtain previous records and send documentation to other physicians

- Obtain referrals from family doctors and authorizations from insurance companies

- Fax and scan documents

- Record & collect patient charges and payments.

- Call patients for appointment reminders

- Communicate with insurances

- Experience with EMA/Modernizing Medicine is a plus

- Dust and sweep office, maintain clean environment

- Perform additional duties as assigned
