Job Summary
The Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising staff and the operation and overall flow of the unit on his/her designated shift, and is a role model for all staff. He/she is responsible for coordinating unit schedules and staff assignments and participating in the performance appraisal process. The Charge Nurse is responsible for ensuring staffs meet the approved Standards of Practice, for managing assigned personnel and unit activities and for promoting cooperative working relationships with physicians and other health care providers. Provides patient care as needed. The Charge Nurse is responsible for the internal management of the nursing unit functions and staff, along with the integration of department services into the primary functions of the organization related to patient care and services. The Charge Nurse assumes administrative responsibility for nursing services on assigned unit in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department, the Standards of TJC, DMH, the Statutes of the State of California, and hospital policies, goals, and objectives. Completes Utilization Review of Behavioral Health Services. Charge Nurse will have expert knowledge of the regulations and requirements of the department of mental health, Los Angeles County
Job Requirements
Minimum Education Requirement:
BSN preferred. Attends at least one leadership seminar each year.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
Three years psychiatric nursing experience is required. Management of Assaultive Behavior is required. Excellent customer service skills required.
Minimum License Requirement:
Current RN license in the State of California.
Maintains BLS certification.
Current VIP Response Training (VIP) certification required; alternative certification such as NVP, CPI, BVP, MAB meeting AB-508 Bill requirements accepted upon hire/ transfer if VIP certification is not available. VIP certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire/ transfer. RNC preferred.
LPS designation required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
