Primary Functions:

The primary function of the Chief Boiler Operator include, but are not limited to, servicing and repairing of equipment falling under his/her jurisdiction, and the general work direction of the on-shift Watch Engineers. There will be no more than one Chief designated to assume these duties. The Chief Engineer will fill in for the Watch Engineer in emergency situations, including an equitable share of the overtime requirements. (Equitable share not to exceed 15%).

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm with OT as needed
Pay: $41.54/hour

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review daily reports, logs and rounds recorded by the on shift Boiler Operators.
  • Maintenance work as assigned.
  • Operate fuel oil system when required.
  • Operate emergency generator monthly and as required.
  • Operate air handling and make up air systems.
  • Operate compressed air supply system including air compressors and refrigerated air dryers.
  • Operate cooling water system, including chemical program and testing.
  • Operate water softening equipment including salt handling and loading.
  • Testing and work as required for steam and cooling water chemical programs.
  • Maintain CertainTeed fork lift operator license.
  • Attend all required safety meetings.
  • Be knowledgeable of all SDS sheets on products used in this department.
  • Comply with confined space safety program.
  • Other work as assigned by the Power and Heat Supervisor.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minnesota High Pressure Steam Chief Operator License (Chief B or Higher)
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems operations.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Safety & Health:

Follow the CertainTeed Health and Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within the facility and provide key leadership to support the EHS initiatives. Proper use of PPE at all times. Maintain clean and safe working environment in line with the 5S philosophy. Facilitate and/or participate in safety training and safety committee meetings.

Quality Assurance and Process Control:

Support a zero-defect system through process control, to minimize non-quality related costs and to improve customer satisfaction. This requires defect-free work and understanding of the requirements of the company’s quality system as it pertains to job duties and responsibilities or and assist in initiating and implementing corrective and preventative actions when appropriate.

Flexibility:

Ability to work schedules in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement which may include overtime and weekends/holidays. Speak clearly so others understand, vision acuity to see details within a few feet of an observer, accepting of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations, sensitivity to other’s needs, positive demeanor, and model change management for the business.

Work Environment:

Areas of the manufacturing plant are not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas >80db are present inside plant areas. Manufacturing processes involve granules, silica sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs to extensive heights (>60Ft)
  • Ability to work in various temperature extremes (outdoors)
  • Must be respirator qualified and fit tested.
