Overview:
The Chief Medical Officer is the senior medical administrative position in Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) and is responsible for activities related to the improvement in care provided to patients, clinical outcomes achieved and optimization of resources. This is a leadership position requiring vision, innovation, planning and collaboration and is critical to the success of AMG. The Chief Medical Officer will partner with the Chief Operating Officer to coordinate activities of clinicians within the group practice from recruitment to performance management. The Chief Medical Officer will support and be accountable to the AMG Board of Directors. Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer to establish clinical, service and business priorities for AMG.
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer and officers of the AMG Board to identify and frame issues that need to be addressed by the AMG Board; attend all Board meetings.
  • Support and staff AMG physician committees to establish domains for performance measurement and monitoring of quality, safety, experience, equity, and appropriateness of care, service and operations.
  • Determine format and methodology for data collection and support AMG committees in establishing strategy and process for distribution of data.
  • Provide the Board with performance data and recommendations for areas of focus for improvement initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and support to AMG physician leaders and managers for sharing data with clinicians and introducing improvement interventions as required.
  • Participate in medical group processes to establish standards and policies for quality, safety, experience, equity, service, and operations.
  • Assist the Board and its committees in developing clinical protocols, care pathways and care bundles.
  • In conjunction with the AMG management team, Board, regional councils, and local practice leadership, monitor and manage compliance with standards, policies, protocols, and pathways.
  • In conjunction with AMG management team, support compliance with all coding, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • As a member of the AMG management team, participate in the development and management of the budget.
  • Assist in the recruitment, credentialing, and retention of AMG physicians.
  • Participate in the development of compensation, incentive and reward strategies and models.
  • Support physician education, training, and professional satisfaction.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of processes to address physician behavior or impairment issues.
  • Participate in AMG and system-wide strategic planning activities.
  • Participate in community relations activities as requested and required by the Board and AMG management team.
  • Partner with Atlantic Health System hospital chief medical officers and the Accountable Care Organization chief medical officer in addressing medical staff issues.
  • Collaborate with AHS hospital chief medical officers to create and implement care strategies across the network and care continuum.
  • Serve on Committees of AHS including the Board Quality Committee and the Medical Staff Leadership and Development Committee.
  • Act as a representative of AMG and AHS, as requested, to external entities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Shall be a physician certified by an appropriate Medical Board.
  • Distinguished and credible record of accomplishment in clinical practice.
  • Several years of progressive administrative experience, with record of success in leading performance improvement initiatives in the ambulatory care setting (High Reliability, Continuous Quality Improvement, or LEAN, as examples), and in the areas of resource management, physician relations, patient experience, and clinician engagement.
  • Experience in multi-campus health systems and medical group practice settings preferred.
  • Additional education in management, MBA or equivalent experience preferred.
