CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

JOB DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

As Chief Operations Officer, you will lead and represent the organisation and be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the organisation. You will report to the Board and

Chairperson or other Board Appointed grouping as you drive the organisation forward by formulating, implementing and delivering the Goals of the Strategic Objectives while providing the leadership necessary to meet Showjumping Ireland's current and future development needs.

As COO, you will be expected to understand member and stakeholder needs while having the ability to manage a complex portfolio of organisational responsibilities including commercial and strategic priorities, operational effectiveness, stakeholder management, communications, and financial/governance controls.

You will also have a sound knowledge of a High-Performance environment preferably sports related.

To be considered for this role you will need to be a strong leader, with excellent stakeholder communication and management capabilities. You will have a clear understanding and appreciation of the integration of voluntarism with executive delivery and the requirements of all stakeholders within the immediate and connected industry.

You should have excellent skills in management prioritisation and an ability in delivering strategic plan goals with the ability to encourage stakeholder input and buy in.

Knowledge of the national and international Equestrian sporting landscape will be deemed essential.

It is also essential that the holder of the position can communicate in a fair and understandable manner to the Board of Directors, Committee members and general membership of the organisation. It is also desirable that you understand the multi-faceted makeup of the industry, sport and membership across Breeding, leisure, and production member activity.

This is a High-Profile position as the Administration head of the Largest Equestrian Sporting Body in

Ireland.

KEY DELIVERABLES

The key deliverables of the COO are reflected in Showjumping Ireland Strategic Objectives.

These include to:

  • Continue to grow membership through our existing base, enhanced interaction with broader equestrian community and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that competitions and activities are member focused with an enhanced customer experience
  • Support our members by continuing to develop structures so that we can produce world class athletes with a sustainable performance coaching structure, facilities and support staff
  • Expand participation in recreational events through a focus on existing competitions and activities and the creation of initiatives in cooperation with affiliates and broader industry.
  • Maintain and enhance our child safeguarding and health and safety processes.
  • Manage governance and finances to best demonstrated practices and to train our staff to acquire expertise in every area to become best in class
  • Make Marketing and Member service a key focus throughout the organisation

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership / Strategic Planning

  • Demonstrate motivational skills to the Showjumping Ireland management, staff and volunteer network across all activities.
  • Represent Showjumping Ireland and the equestrian community in a responsible manner in line with the organisation’s values.
  • Maintain and develop best practice management and governance protocols.
  • Work proactively and respectfully with all the organisation’s key stakeholders to deliver the requirements in line with the Strategic Objectives of the organisation.
  • Deliver goals and targets in line with the Strategic Objectives and needs of the organisation.

Stakeholder management

  • Create an environment where relationships with all stakeholders including equestrian affiliates, Horse Sport Ireland, Commercial partners, athletes, owners, breeders can help deliver positively for the sport and industry.
  • Ensure an inclusive environment with consultation and dialogue at its core is a key priority for the organisation
  • Actively engage with the equestrian community in creating an open dialogue on matters of

Significance

Financial/Governance/Risk Management

  • Manage the financial dealings of the Association in a prudent manner in line with Board oversight
  • Ensure Showjumping Ireland is at best peer practice in all Governance matters and in full compliance with statutory frameworks with full Board engagement
  • Continue to actively drive revenue streams outside of statutory and regular funding vehicles
  • Ensure all Showjumping Ireland risk management systems and policies are appropriate, current, and applied
  • Ensure the successful ongoing operation and resourcing of Board Committee in line with

Board Policies

Commercial, Marketing and Communications

  • Manage Commercial and sponsor relations to maximise revenue certainty by building long term partnerships
  • Identify new programmes and other opportunities to expand the revenue base
  • Ensure that marketing and communications activities are structured to strengthen and enhance the reputation of Showjumping Ireland and that of the sport
  • Assume the role of primary spokesperson for Showjumping Ireland in tandem with the organisation’s Chairperson and standing committee Chairpersons.
  • Appraise and advise on service providers and contracts for all essential SJI services.
  • Formulate and oversee Administration related Budgets.
  • Monitor rolling Budgetary spend for all standing committees and liaise with relevant committees in relation to Budgetary spend.
  • Ensure agreed reporting and communication procedures between the Board , standing committees and head office are implemented and adhered to.
  • Manage SJI staffing requirements.

DELEGATED POWERS

The powers to be delegated to the COO by the Board of Directors allow the successful candidate to manage the operational and regular affairs of the SJI (including): a) Responsibility to oversee the efficient running of SJI through its administration facilities, b) Responsibility to follow the broad strategic direction set by the Board of Directors, c) Responsibility to implement approved HR policies, d) Responsibility to implement approved financial policies, e) Responsibility to develop, test and update business continuity plan, f) Liaise with the Chair of the Board-on-board agendas. g) The level of financial authority will be determined by the Board of Directors, h) Performance expectations will be outlined in the contract of employment,

i) Reporting methods to the Board will be outlined in the contract of employment, j) Remuneration will be set by the Board of Directors.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Showjumping Ireland would like candidates to also have a range of skills, experience and traits which will aid them in the role, including:

  • Knowledge of the Equestrian Industry is desirable
  • Strategic experience in a similar field
  • Visionary and strategic thinking which will facilitate an openness to change
  • A people person to relate to the wide variety of members, stakeholders and enthusiasts
  • Strong but inclusive management style
  • Collaborative capability to deliver the maximum for the sport from relationships
  • Marketer instincts with good brand awareness
  • Proven Ability to administer and manage Board and Committee requirements
  • A broad understanding of IT systems will be necessary.
  • Financial acumen and knowledge of financial reporting systems
  • Good Presentation and representative skills, visual and verbal.
  • Proven ability to apply timely and informative reporting procedures.

Location

The initial place of work for the position of the Chief Operations Officer will be at the offices of the

Showjumping Association of Ireland, Beech House, Millennium Park, Osberstown, Naas, Co. Kildare,

W91 TK7N. SJI reserves the right, at its discretion, to change working location within reason.

Working Week:

Salary Scale:

€70,000.00 - €80,000.00
