Childcare Teacher
Infant, Toddler, and Preschool

Responsible to:
The Child Care Teacher is directly responsible to the director of the Weymouth High School Early Childhood Center.
General Summary:
The Child Care Teacher will provide a daily program and activities and opportunities that promote the growth and development of children and in the program environment.
- Ensures the safe pick up and delivery of each child to authorized persons of caregivers.
- Conducts regular observations and recordings of each child's developmental progress, changes in physical appearance, and emotional and behavioral patterns.
- Shares appropriate information and concerns, gathered from observations, with the program director.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the stages of child development in all areas.
- Assists with planning and implements activities to develop and enhance each child's skills.
- Assists with planning and implements appropriate curriculum based on children's needs, interests and strengths.
- Utilizes daily routines such as diapering, feeding, changing, etc. as opportunities for learning for the infant/toddler.
- Encourages children's strengths by building trust, fostering independence and modeling respect for feelings and rights of others.
- Promotes interaction and language use among children and between children and adults.
- Provides experiences and guidance for active play and movement to support the development of gross motor skills.
- Provides teacher-directed quiet play to enhance individual social interaction and fine motor skills.
- Facilitates development of self-control in toddlers by using positive guidance techniques.
- Holds and feeds infants and young toddlers at regular intervals and utilizes feeding times as learning experiences.
- Treats all families with kindness and respect.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings and workshops as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as requested by the director of the WHS Early Childhood Center.
The center is a laboratory for the CTE students to gain experience in child care practices while earning their licensure.
Qualifications:
- Early Education and Care (EEC) certification required
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience working with children is preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. At times may need to use physical guidance to assist students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee may be required to walk long distances; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment. Ability to withstand long term use of computers is required. The employee will be required to respond quickly in the event of emergencies.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. There are often multiple adults engaging with students within the same environment. The employee is required to regularly interact with the students, staff and the public. May be required to work in the following environmental conditions: dusty, cold, hot, indoor and outdoor.
