Job Summary:


The Department of Pediatrics is recruiting a physician at the faculty rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor to join our Division of Child Protection within the Department of Pediatrics at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. This position provides clinical services for victims of suspected child maltreatment and has the potential to develop into leadership opportunities.

The 111-bed American Family Children's Hospital opened in August of 2007 and is the only facility in Madison exclusively devoted to the care and treatment of children. In addition to serving our local community, the hospital receives tertiary referrals from throughout the state and region and is staffed by providers from every subspecialty area. The Department of Pediatrics (www.pediatrics.wisc.edu) has approximately 200 faculty and offers a full range of pediatric subspecialty care.

Responsibilities:


  • Clinical services encompass outpatient clinic and inpatient consultations at the American Family Children's Hospital, as well as inpatient consultations at two community hospitals.
  • Coordination and collaboration with child protective services, law enforcement, and other community partners will also be expected.
  • Teaching will include clinical teaching, classroom, small group and lectures to a variety of learners and community partners.
  • A strong interest in research or scholarly activity is expected.

For appointments hired on Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track:
~60-70% clinical care for patients at UW Health approved locations
~30-40% research and scholarly activities, program development, division leadership administrative duties and/or education activities. For those appointed to the CHS title track, academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. ~90% - Provide patient care at UW Health approved locations;

License/certification:
  • Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin medical license
  • BC/BE required in Child Abuse Pediatrics
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
  • Completion of accredited pediatric residency program and fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics is required
  • Experience working in an academic medical center and a desire to incorporate teaching to a variety of learners into clinical practice is preferred
  • Scholarly work in an area of interest to the candidate is expected
  • Outstanding communication skills and experience building collaborative partnerships, are essential

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.
