POSITION SUMMARY

The Children’s and Senior Programs Coordinator is responsible for the relationship development, coordination, operation, and support of Second Harvest Food Bank’s Children’s and Senior programming across the Acadiana and Southwest Louisiana regions. Under the supervision of the Impact Operations Director and in close coordination with the Children’s Programs Manager, the Children’s and Senior Programs Coordinator is integral to the implementation of several of Second Harvest’s key programs to address food insecurity among children and seniors, and provide both populations with the meals and food they need to be healthy, happy, and thriving.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develops, maintains, and cultivates positive relationships with community partners to support Second Harvest’s outreach and recruitment efforts for children and senior programming.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all partnerships related to children and senior programming across Acadiana and Southwest Louisiana regions.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, implementation, support, compliance and evaluation of children’s programming, including Kids Cafe, Summer Feeding, School Pantry, and Backpack Programs, as well as senior meal programming.
  • Provides administrative support for School Pantry and/or Backpack Programs, including: administering and maintaining program materials, records, and files; conducting site visits; working with the procurement team to order product for School Pantry and/or Backpack Programs; tracking School Pantry and/or Backpack inventory; managing logistics and operations to ensure School Pantry and/or Backpack partner schools receive their product in a timely manager; and monitoring partner sites and programs to ensure services provided are of the highest quality and partners are well supported.
  • Manages Kids Cafe, Summer Feeding, and Senior meal administration and logistics such as: assisting with training sites on food safety protocols and daily reporting; monitoring daily meal reporting and adjusting daily meal projections, as needed; communicating effectively with the kitchen logistics teams to ensure the community kitchen has all relevant information to supply partners with meals properly; conduct regularly scheduled monitoring of sites to ensure proper protocols are being met and to correct out-of-protocol behaviors; provide support to site coordinators and staff to ensure successful programming.
  • Meet annual program goals and grant deliverables, and assist with the preparation of reports.
  • Contributes to and implements the strategic and program development of the Community Kitchen.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of plans for programs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Confers with the Public Relations and Marketing team in marketing the community kitchen to the community and prospective social enterprise customers.
  • Creates an annual outreach plan in conjunction with Impact Operations Director.
  • Schedules outreach presentations in the community and communicates with the Impact team regarding coverage and responsibilities.
  • Assess training effectiveness to confirm compliance and understanding of program requirements.
  • Represent Second Harvest at community meetings and/or events, as appropriate.
  • Comply with all SHFB policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional, positive, and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from college or university; Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, or related field is preferred.

  • Commitment to serving low-income individuals and families. Interest in and sensitivity to poverty and hunger issues.
  • Ability to travel locally with the willingness to work in the field regularly; occasional travel for overnight training.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License and access to an automobile with current auto insurance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of standard office management practices and procedures, including reception, record-keeping, prioritization of work, and using standard office equipment, including computers. Ability to master in-house software and reporting systems.

Allowable Substitutions: A combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be considered in lieu of education and/or experience at the company’s discretion.
