Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Circulation and User Services Manager, the Circulation Assistant will participate in the activities of the circulation/reserve desks in a highly automated and fast-paced service environment. The Circulation Assistant will:
  • Oversee all circulation desk activities during evenings and weekends as scheduled
  • Supervise student Assistants staffing the desk
  • Coordinate the physical maintenance of library collections
  • Prepare materials to be placed on reserve
  • Support a variety of departmental functions
  • Assist library users with basic reference, information, and technology questions


Hourly range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $18.00 – Maximum $23.00/ per hour. A criminal background check and pre-employment physical will be required.

Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Outstanding interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proven technology skills and use of a broad range of software applications


Preferred:
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
  • A minimum of one year of library, customer service, or related experience


Preferred:
  • Experience working at a library circulation desk and with an automated circulation system
  • Experience supervising and/or training employees
  • Experience with stacks maintenance and access
  • Experience with providing general research assistance

Standard Work Days and Hours
  • This position is 35 hours/week, year round position (0.88 FTE)
  • During academic year, this position is scheduled to work Sunday – Thursday 4:00 pm – 12:00 am. When class is not in session, daytime hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
