Your Opportunity
You will join the Energy Business Line that is planning, designing, and constructing projects worldwide that are key to a more sustainable energy and water future. You will be a key member of the Stantec for the construction of the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project - the largest earth dam project in the United States in the last 50 years with an innovative hydraulic asphalt core. The experience gained on this project will boost your career path to key positions on hydropower, pumped storage, and water storage projects worldwide.
Initially, your focus will be to support the dam foundation grouting work and develop the skills to lead the grouting program during a second shift. Responsibilities will include evaluating grouting data, making sure that the grouting meets the design requirements, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, working with the grouting inspectors to accurately document the work, reviewing quality testing, resolving NCRs, and working with other team members to resolve design related issues.
You may perform a variety of tasks depending on your interests and skills. Opportunities may include engineering or geologic evaluations for construction of the dam foundations, rock quarry, dam fills, asphalt core, tunnel, spillway, pipelines, and valve house. You will represent Stantec in field meetings, prepare and make presentations, prepare reports documenting the work, and perform other work as requested by your Stantec Resident Engineer.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Work safely in the office and outside.
- Review the project design and site geology, including the drawings, specifications, field investigation reports, and tunnel geotechnical baseline report (GBR).
- Review contractor’s grouting submittals, RFIs, substitution requests and prepare responses.
- Work with the grouting inspectors so that they record appropriate technical details of the foundation grouting to demonstrate that the drawings and specifications were met.
- Evaluate grouting data to support decisions about the length of grout holes, the need for added grout holes, and other details.
- Review contractor’s QC and construction manager’s QA test results.
- Request QA testing as appropriate.
- Work with the Resident Engineer to resolve non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Work with the Resident Engineer to resolve design-related issues and claims.
- As requested by the Resident Engineer, perform similar work as described above for construction activities other than grouting, which may include the dam foundations, rock quarry, dam fill, asphalt core, tunnel, spillway, pipelines, access roads, and valve house.
- Coordinate work tasks and personnel with others from the Stantec field team and home office to efficiently cover all work fronts.
- Represent Stantec in field meetings, prepare and make presentations, prepare reports, and perform other work as requested by the Resident Engineer.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize work and perform multiple tasks at the same time.
- Ability to work in typical field construction office environment, including working at a desk, with exposure to noise, dirt, and dust.
- Ability to work in typical construction field environment, working outside with exposure to the elements noise, dirt, and dust for extended periods of time, including strenuous walking, hiking, and climbing.
- Ability to be flexible and work as the construction activities require including second shifts and up to 60 hours per week.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering
- Master’s degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, geological engineering preferred
- Professional registration as a civil engineer, geologist, engineering geologist, or geological engineer preferred.
- More than 3 years of civil or geological engineering experience, with experience in planning, design, or construction of dam foundations, rock quarries, dam fills, tunnels, spillways, or pipelines preferred.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):
Salary Range(s):
- $38.17 Per Hour - $55.38 Per Hour (CA, CO locations only)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
