The Internship Development Program Coordinator supports learning by managing and administering the internship and employer relations program for Shoreline Community College students. As a member of the Career Center, the coordinator works with all students across programs and academic disciplines. The Career Center is part of the Access, Advising & Asian American Native American Pacific Islanders Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Division as well as the Workforce and STEM Division with strong and broad-reaching relationships and responsibilities throughout campus and the Shoreline community. The Career Center is a partnership with WorkSource providing career-related-services to students and community members including career exploration, job search skills, workshops, campus-wide career fair coordination and job/internship postings, work-based learning opportunities, and institutional career outcome reporting. The Career Center is responsible to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and leverages those relationships to help students and community members investigate the many available professional opportunities, with special consideration for finding paths that meet their skills, goals, values, and unique identities.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assess current internship practices to establish a Shoreline Internship Program across campus
  • Develop and promote a coordinated internship marketing and communication strategy that educates on the benefits of an internship and encourages all students to participate in an internship
  • Assist students with securing internship placement for academic credit and for career preparation
  • Establish and steward relationships with internship employers
  • Collaborate with employers and faculty to ensure internship outcomes are met
  • Serve as an expert on effective internships; work to educate employers on internship-related best practices
  • Maintain records of approved internship sites including required risk management and other documents
  • Facilitate communication of internship opportunities to students and faculty
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions for students and employers who have secured internship placements
  • Utilize a database to process and store internship data, post positions, and connect with employers
  • Manage internship records, including completion and receipt of required documents
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of the intern and site relationship throughout the internship process
  • Coordinate the internship evaluation process, gathering relevant data across campus to assess program effectiveness and improvement
  • Serve as a resource for employer engagement work-based learning experiences, i.e., job fairs, industry tours, classroom speaking, mock interviews, etc.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High school graduation or equivalent

AND

  • Two years of experience in the program specialty

OR

  • Equivalent education/experience


KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word programs

SKILL IN:

  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities
  • Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within college/legal guidelines
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College
  • Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:

This position is allocated to pay range 38, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
