Avalon Housing builds and manages close to 400 units of high-quality, affordable housing across 29 sites in Washtenaw County. Our housing provides long-term care and support for people who are exiting homelessness and struggle with mental and/or physical health challenges. Avalon takes a lot of pride in maintaining our buildings and housing units to very high standards, both inside and out. Cleaning Technicians play an important role in the upkeep of all Avalon properties, and directly support our Maintenance department. Our Cleaning Technicians have good problem-solving and people skills. They are comfortable performing a wide variety of job tasks, traveling daily between properties, and working independently with little direct supervision.

Paid Time Off

Paid time off includes three weeks of vacation time plus additional sick and personal time allowances. There is also an extra paid holiday every month!

Full-time employees can choose from three different medical insurance plans with dental, vision, and prescription coverage, including an option with no per-payroll premium contribution, even for families! Your personal annual deductible is capped at $1,000.

Life and Disability Plans

All staff working more than 16 hours per week are given Life insurance and Short- and Long-Term Disability plans, with Avalon covering the premium cost.

403(b) Retirement Plan

Avalon sponsors a 403(b) retirement plan through Vanguard, available to all employees.

Core Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:

• Custodial and cleaning duties
• Regularly clean and inspect all Avalon properties
• Clean community centers, common hallways, bathrooms & kitchens

Maintenance Assistance

• Assist Maintenance department with unit turnover
• Participate in unit turnover/cleanouts
• Assist with maintaining inventory
• Conduct basic maintenance activities as directed by the Facilities Manager as needed

Desired Qualifications & Experience

• Flexibility, with a proven track record of successful multi-tasking
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills
• Strong knowledge and experience with cleaning, floor refinishing, carpet cleaning, and light maintenance duties
• Self-motivated with ability to take initiative, as well as ability to work as part of a team
• High level of comfort interacting with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities; experience working with people who are homeless or have a mental or physical disability is a plus.
• Valid and current Michigan Driver's License, and your own reliable transportation. You will be reimbursed for mileage at 65 cents per mile.

Starting Wage: $17.75/hour, plus overtime
