Position Summary

• Provide patient education about mental health disorders and available treatment options specific to this population. YBH will have 4 adolescent inpatient units with 1 of the 4 units treating mental health conditions within IDD population and the other 3 serving general young child, early adolescent and adolescent mental health conditions requiring psychiatric hospitalization.
• Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques. Areas of specific clinical skills of interest include experiences in trauma therapies, systemic and family models of therapy.
• Provide or facilitate evidence-based short term psychosocial treatments to patients and their parents/guardians (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral therapy, and Trauma informed treatment modalities), psychoeducation and elements of ABA if working within the unit caring for patients with IDD.
• Strong engagement with social work principles and their application to complex problems required for case management and interdisciplinary collaborations and interdisciplinary team meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, or LPA degree and completion of a credentialed internship with relevance to position. License in the state of North Carolina or a transferable state license.

An excellent working knowledge and experience with mental health conditions specific to children, adolescents and parents or guardians requiring inpatient hospitalization and evidence-based treatments for these conditions; experience with treatment planning for mental health conditions in this population.

A strong background in collaborating with multiple disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, recreational therapies, education, nursing. Experience assisting in establishing community-based services.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Although not required for the positions, UNC Department of Psychiatry is committed to clinical service and teaching. Experience and interest in teaching or supervision of social work externs, psychology or master’s level interns, and medical residents can be an integral part of the positions based on applicants’ preference.
