A full-time, permanent vacancy has arisen for the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatrics. Vhi Health & Wellbeing are looking to secure a Clinical Nurse Specialist for our Paediatric Clinics with the experience and training required enable Vhi H@W to deliver high quality child and adolescent mental health services as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing delivery of effective, recovery orientated, high quality, team based, integrated care for a 0-18 population, as part of the multi-disciplinary team structure in accordance with standards of professional practice.

- Be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment / intervention programmes for patients of the service according to professional standards.
- Communicate results of assessments and recommendations to the patient and relevant others as appropriate.
- Collaborate with service user, family, carers and other staff in goal setting and treatment / intervention planning.
- Make it possible for service users to advocate for their own needs
- Maintaining ethical and personal standards at all times.
- Provide comprehensive assessments for the client group based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources including physical, psychological, social, self-report measures, direct and indirect observation and interviews with clients, family members and / or carers.
- Use the outcomes of patient assessment to develop and implement plans of care/case management in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and the patient, family and/or carer as appropriate.
- Co-ordinate investigations, treatment therapies and patient follow-up.
- Document all assessments, diagnoses, treatment / intervention plans, clinical notes, relevant contacts and summaries in accordance with department and professional standards.
- Participate in medication reconciliation taking cognisance of poly-pharmacy and support medical and pharmacy staff with medication reviews and medication management
- Identify and promote specific symptom management strategies as well as the identification of triggers which may cause exacerbation of symptoms.
- Provide patients with appropriate self-management strategies and escalation pathways.
- Participate in and develop activities which support health promotion.
- Manage nurse led clinics with MDT input.
- Taking initiatives to move the service forward and show willingness to try out new ideas that add service delivery value
- Undertake Key Worker role as required.
- Foster close working relationships with colleagues and other relevant professionals in maximising the service users potential.
- Attending and actively contributing to relevant clinical, professional and service meetings
- Participating as a full member of the MDT
- understanding and facilitating multidisciplinary team working
- working in collaboration with the other members of the team in the planning and delivery of services for children
- Support MDT colleagues with case load management.
- Demonstrating innovation in working within resource limitations to sustain and enhance the service
- Liaise with primary care colleagues as a conduit of information and ensure timely referral where appropriate.
- Represent the department / team at meetings and conferences as appropriate.
- Promote good team working, and a culture that values diversity.
- In conjunction with the planned care management team, clinical team lead and MDT contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and guidelines while adhering to existing standards and protocols.
- Develop and implement service / business plans, quality initiatives, audits etc. and report on outcomes in collaboration with the planned care management team
- Actively participate as a member of the MDT in team building and change management initiatives.
- Participate in mandatory and recommended training programmes in accordance with departmental/organisational guidelines.
- Maintain and develop professional expertise and knowledge by actively engaging in continuing professional development.
- Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and safety legislation.
- Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
- Promote good working practice and uniformity of standards of best practice.
- Engage in IT developments as they apply to service user and service administration.
- Keep up to date with developments within the organisation and the Irish Health Service
Criteria:
- Registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann.
- Successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider or Can provide written evidence from higher education institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nursing prior to application.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning skills and evidence based practice appropriate to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the role in line with relevant legislation and standards.
- Demonstrate evidence of having applied / used appropriate assessment tools and treatments and a knowledge of the implications of outcomes for service users.
- Demonstrate the knowledge, abilities and technical skills required to provide safe, efficient and effective service in the area of practice.
- Demonstrate a willingness to engage and develop IT skills relevant to the role.
- Demonstrates the ability to plan activities and co-ordinate resources to ensure value for money and maximum benefit for the organisation.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead on planning and managing the delivery of an optimum service in an effective and resourceful manner
- Demonstrates ability to lead by example and adapts leadership style to suit the demands of the situation and the people involved.
- Demonstrate an ability to manage and develop self and others in a busy working environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, collaborates well with others.
- Flexibility to work evenings / weekends if/as required by the role.

Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 3 years full time in the Psychiatric Nursing division of the register in which the application is being made.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in specialist area of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nursing Care
- Evidence of work experience in an outpatient setting
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development
- Nurse Prescribing qualification desirable
