Clinical Nurse Specialist Mental Health of Intellectual Disability
(CNSp MHID)
A Vision for Change (2006) details a comprehensive model of health service provision for Ireland. It describes a framework for building and fostering positive mental health across the entire community and for providing accessible, community-based, specialist services for people with mental illness. It recommended that (Recommendation 14.6). Mental health services for people with intellectual disability should be provided by a specialist mental health of intellectual disability (MHID) team that is catchment area-based. These services should be distinct and separate from, but closely linked to, the multidisciplinary teams in intellectual disability services who provide a health and social care service for people with intellectual disability.

Eligibility Criteria:
Qualifications
- Be a registered nurse on the live Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
And
- Be registered in the Intellectual Disability Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
And
- Must have acquired a level 8 post-registration Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) major academic award relevant to the specialist area (Mental Health Nursing), prior to application
Or
- Be a registered nurse on the live Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
And
- Be registered in the Mental Health Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
And
- Must have acquired a level 8 post-registration National Qualification Authority of Ireland (NQAI) major academic award relevant to the specialist area (Intellectual Disability Nursing), prior to application
- Have experience and clinical expertise i.e. minimum of 5 years post registration experience (following registration in the Intellectual Disability division of the register in which the application is being made
- Have a minimum of 2 years experience in the specialist area of Mental Health nursing
Or
- Have experience and clinical expertise i.e. minimum of 5 years post registration experience (following registration in the Mental Health division of the register in which the application is being made)
- Have a minimum of 2 years experience in the specialist area of Intellectual Disability nursing
- Be knowledgeable of Health Act 2007 and have experience and understanding of HIQA Regulations (2013) and Mental Health Commission
- Excellent ability to work with complex cases as part of a multidisciplinary team
Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid in line with HSE revised consolidated HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 Scale.
