The Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has an opening for a clinical research coordinator. The position is full-time and will support ongoing studies within the Orthopaedic Biomechanics laboratory (led by Michael Harris, PhD) and the Shoulder Biomechanics and Rehabilitation laboratory (led by Rebekah Lawrence, PT, PhD). Our labs investigate anatomical and biomechanical factors (e.g., joint shape, muscle function) and their association with hip and shoulder pathologies. Our approach is to conduct rigorous, clinically-relevant research that integrates clinical assessment, diagnostic imaging, and state-of-the-art methods of assessing human movement with the passion and expertise of a multi-disciplinary research team. The successful applicant shares this passion and will contribute to all aspects of the research process including brainstorming, project planning, subject recruitment, data collection and processing, database management, statistical analysis, and dissemination.We aim for our lab to be a stimulating and inclusive environment where members can conduct high-impact research, serve their community, and feel respected for their contributions. Job Description
Job Location/Working Conditions
Normal office/research lab environment with various levels of pressure due to multiple tasks. Must be able to occasionally provide flexible working hours, including early morning/late evening availability and some weekend hours (rare), to accommodate participant schedules and lab requirements/deadlines.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates the development of forms, questionnaires and the application of research techniques; assists in writing instructional procedure manuals for study progress, data collection and coding; reviews journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies to aid in the planning of new studies.
Routinely implements and manages all phases of study/protocol; ensures compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; establishes record-keeping systems; makes assessments and determinations of participants’ progress in the study; analyzes, investigates and reports adverse events; makes decisions as when to notify physicians of issues, when to stop participant inclusion and/or to make and/or recommend adjustment of the protocol of particular participants; resolves IRB/protocol management issues and recommends corrective action as appropriate; serves as liaison with funding or sponsoring agency.
Assists with research participant recruitment and scheduling.
Assists with data collection including frequent interactions with human subjects to obtain biomechanics measures, experimental and diagnostic imaging, clinical outcome measures, and patient-reported outcomes.
Assists with data processing and overseeing personnel hired to assist with data processing.
Evaluates and interprets collected clinical data in conjunction with PI as appropriate; prepares oral or written presentations or reports and analyses setting forth progress trends and provides recommendations or conclusions of the same.
Complies with ethical standards and good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent writing and oral communication skills; proofreading skills.
Able to work independently and as part of a team, and be committed to being a lifelong learner. Most importantly, it is desirable that the candidate is a good teammate and exhibits kindness, curiosity, creativity, and determination.
Highly organized and possess exceptional time management skills. These skills are essential in order to have the ability to prioritize this multifaceted workload and handle a variety of responsibilities in a calm and flexible manner.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously, in a team environment, with faculty, staff, students, research participants, and external customers.
Detail-oriented, accurate, ability to multi-task and follow through on assignments in a timely manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patients and patient records.
Ability and willingness to learn and use new software and laboratory instrumentation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of two years of clinical research experience; a combination of relevant work and education equaling six years may substitute for this requirement.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements). BLS certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.

$50,600.00 - $75,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Accommodation
