Project description
This role is based in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Connolly Hospital. The role involves participation in the running of clinical trials in the department. The current long-term clinical trial, the SELECT study, is a multicenter randomized, placebo controlled trial of the effects of the GLP-1 receptor agonist, semaglutide, on cardiovascular outcomes in non-diabetic people with overweight or obesity and a documented history of cardiovascular diseases. The trial is sponsored by Novo Nordisk and is approved by a central ethics committee. It is being run in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology at Connolly Hospital and recruitment is now complete so the study is in the treatment phase.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
  • To work within the standard operating procedures and research protocols associated with industry and academic clinical research activities in accordance to Good Clinical Practice.
  • To play a proactive role in actively supporting on-going clinical research projects through participant recruitment, participant follow-ups, identifying problems early and regular feedback with Principal Investigator and research team.
  • To assist in ensuring the overall smooth running of clinical research in line with best practice, ICH-GCP and within the scope of the protocol.
  • To ensure participant confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during a clinical trial/research project.
  • To take responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of clinical research documentation, including site files, case record forms, monitoring arrangements, data correction, data collection and data entry, adverse event reporting.
  • To contribute to the completion all ethical and regulatory procedures (submissions, query resolution etc.) for the clinical trial studies you are assigned.
  • To contribute to the review of proposed research protocols and provide input to site study feasibility reports (e.g. annual site participant numbers, equipment / test availability etc.)
  • To ensure prompt management of all study related correspondence.
  • To contribute to the preparation of studies for Internal / Sponsor / Health Products Regulatory (HPRA)/ FDA audits as required.
  • To ensure that participants are fully informed of all details pertaining to the clinical trial/research project prior to their recruitment.
  • To screen participants in order to identify suitable study candidates.
  • To schedule and coordinate participants study visits.
  • To ensure that all assigned studies are completed to the highest standards in accordance with ICH-GCP, HPRA/EU Directive requirements.
  • To carry out other duties as appropriate to the post, which may be assigned from time to time by the Principal Investigator or the Study Coordinator.
  • To provide reports as required
  • To attend study-related conferences, meetings when required
  • To run the departmental 24-hour blood pressure monitoring service
Qualifications
  • Must be on the live register with an appropriate division of An Bord Altranais
  • Successfully completed degree level or above nursing education OR have completed the RCSI level 9 module for clinical research nurses or similar.
