Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Adult Intellectual Disability

Full Time – 2 year Specified Purpose Contract

The successful candidate will join the existing team of Physiotherapists in delivering quality Physiotherapy Services to adults with intellectual disabilities. The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will be in a position of clinical expertise and leadership within the Physiotherapy department for adult services, working to ensure the provision of quality services with high clinical standards. This is an exciting opportunity to progress for clinicians with advanced knowledge and skills in the area of adult intellectual disability. Further definition around specialist areas of practice may be discussed on appointment with the new post holder.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and delivery of Physiotherapy services to adults with intellectual disabilities in a leadership role, under the direction of the Physiotherapy Manager, and in close cooperation with multi-disciplinary clinical and frontline colleagues. The post will require some flexibility across the St. Michael’s House regions in response to service user needs. Supervision will be provided by the Physiotherapy Manager and external supports may be explored if appropriate.

St. Michael’s House seeks to employ proactive and progressive individuals who identify with the ethos of providing a continuum of innovative services that support people with an intellectual disability to live full lives in the community.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc or MSc Degree in Physiotherapy accredited by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists
  • Be registered with the Physiotherapy register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU
  • Have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience working as a physiotherapist to include at least 4 years experience working as a Physiotherapist in adult intellectual disability services or in the area of Frailty and the Older Person.
  • All candidates must demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the

specialism.

  • Demonstrable evidence of achievement in areas such as clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development and research.
  • Have experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support service users, their families and staff

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant post-graduate certification or qualification relevant to the area of adult ID.
  • Experience in the area of frailty and Older Persons.
  • Experience in the area of dementia.
  • Experience in participating in the conduction of research and/or teaching/lecturing experience in the area of adult ID
  • Full clean driving licence and use of a car.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in providing leadership and managing workloads within in a team
  • Evidence of on-going commitment to professional development activities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
