Salary range (depending on experience): $105,000-$135,000

We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.
Job Summary: As a vital member of our Senior Leadership Team, the Communications Director is responsible for leading their department in development and implementing ECU/LAV’s communications efforts. This includes but is not limited to crafting long- and short-term communications plans, coordinating across all departments to ensure communications are aligned with broader organizational goals, and playing a key role in setting the strategic agenda for ECU/LAV as a whole.
This role is a senior position; successful candidates will be seasoned professionals who have significant prior communications experience, ideally at a senior level. This person will bring their own creativity and innovation to our communications strategy, identifying opportunities to elevate the ECU/LAV message on the national, state, and local level.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to achieve our programmatic and electoral goals.
- Develop impactful media relationships and partnerships to amplify the work of ECU/LAV.
- Serve as the main spokesperson for ECU/LAV.
- Train organizational spokespeople for media appearances, partnership convenings, donor meetings, and other public appearances.
- Engage in rapid response - this will occasionally include after-hours or weekend work in high-priority cases.
- Develop substantive expertise and fluency in issues of democracy, money in politics, voting rights, and the legislative priorities of ECU/LAV.
- Draft and edit communications tools and content: press releases, statements, information for elected officials and candidates, materials for donors, branding content, and more.
- Lead and manage the communications team and work across departments to achieve communications and organizational goals.
- Serve as a member of the ECU/LAV senior leadership team.
- May occasionally travel for work purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least 8 years of experience in communications or 8+ years experience in communications and related applicable experiences. Experience must include extensive experience pitching political press and previous experience working with a principal.
- Excellent people skills, with the ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team and collaborate with multiple strategic partners.
- Strong leadership ability, including the ability to manage and drive a diverse team’s performance.
- Exceptional communications skills; strong writing, editing, and research abilities; a talent for clear and compelling storytelling and narrative development.
- Established relationships with reporters and media decision-makers from a variety of outlets; a proven track record of successful media engagement resulting in national and local coverage.
- Extensive on the record speaking experience.
- Past experience supporting and preparing others for media engagement and public appearances.
- An understanding of how race, class, and other identities intersect with our work in advocacy and electoral campaigns.
- A commitment to getting Big Money out of politics, expanding voting rights, and fighting corruption in state and local politics.

Job Location: This position is based in Washington, D.C. where our staff work in our office in-person a minimum of 2 days a week. Relocation stipend available.
