Founded in 1971 by a group of parents of children with diabetes, the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) is the organization of choice for those who are serious, passionate, and committed to curing diabetes. What You’ll Do:
- Working collaboratively with the Development Team and scientific staff to ensure accurate messaging and adherence to best practices.
- Identifying and creating research focused video content for the organization’s various digital assets.
- Manage workflow and serves as writer for the DRI – conducts research/interviews to develop and write spotlights, news stories, media releases, research highlights, etc.
- Interviewing DRI faculty and preparing scientific information, statistics, and data for proposals and reports for individual, foundation and corporate donors in a manner that is faithful to the scientific objectives while easily understandable in lay language.
- Writing and maintaining up to date research and fundraising/philanthropy focused content for the DRI/F website, e-newsletters and other related channels.
- Writing research focused content for DRIF print and digital communications (including the Annual Report, DRI Focus and DRI Financial Focus newsletters, DRI Insider e-news) articulating the scientific research strategy and the various initiatives and funding impact for a lay audience.
- Work with the DRI scientific staff in coordinating timely progress reports on funded research through DRIF Foundation donations.
- Collaborate with the philanthropy and development team on story ideas focused on DRI research advances, journal publications, etc for donor and stewardship communication.
- Track research related information relevant to the Philanthropy Team and provide the department with written materials necessary for fundraising and donor stewardship.
- Other responsibilities, as may be assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, science or related field of study required
- 5+ years of demonstrated success in a writing-centric role; direct experience in philanthropy preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Detail-oriented
- Proficient writing, copy-editing and proofing skills required
- Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the Foundation
- High energy and passion for DRIF’s mission
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, and self-directed
- Knowledge or experience in UX, WordPress, and graphic design a plus
- Working knowledge of industry best practices, standards, and ethics
- Exceptional organizational, communications, computer and writing skills
