Job Summary

Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership (KRSP) supported by Sport Ireland has secured funding for the recruitment of a Community Sports Development Officer. The Community Sports Development Officer (CSDO) will be based in Tralee, County Kerry.

The role of the CSDO will be to strengthen and enhance the capacity of KRSP to further develop locally led plans and more long term sustainable physical activity programmes under the National Physical Activity Plan. The CSDO will be responsible for fostering and encouraging a culture of Active Participation, supporting opportunities for and access to sport and physical activity in local communities. The CSDO will address barriers to participation, encourage access, and increase opportunities for participation by those who experience disadvantage for any reason.

The objectives for the CSDO during his/her period of employment will be:-

  • To support the development of exciting and dynamic opportunities to increase participation for people who are sedentary.
  • To capacity build smaller National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) that do not currently have Development Officers, and other stakeholders to deliver services to increase participation.
  • To develop sustainable local leadership for sport within communities.

The ideal candidate will have a constructive, positive and progressive attitude to working as part of the KRSP team, and a self-motivated approach to his/her work.

S/he must have an awareness of the role and importance of the co-ordinated inter-agency approach to the strategic development of sport, and an ability to consult, communicate, and network appropriately and effectively with all sectors of the community.

S/he must demonstrate capacity to monitor and evaluate work and write reports, and have strong administrative, I.T. and organisational skills as well as the ability to produce and access information efficiently and accurately.

Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills, and the ability to advise, inform, motivate and support individuals and organisations are a requirement.

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:-

  • hold a relevant professional qualification at Degree level (level 7 NFQ minimum) or above, in Sports Development / Health Promotion / Health and Leisure / Recreation & Leisure Management, and
  • have significant experience of working in a sports development environment, and
  • have experience of project management and of piloting, developing and delivering sustainable physical activity-based initiatives
  • hold a full current Driving Licence in respect of Category “B” Vehicles or equivalent in the E.U. Model Driving Licence, as the post holder will be required to undertake travel for work purposes
