The SD Board of Regents is recruiting two Senior Compensation and Classification Specialists to join the university system’s human resources team. Reporting to the system Chief HR Officer, these positions are responsible for providing human resources expertise and management in the areas of position classification and employee compensation for the SD Board of Regents system. These positions are a part of the system’s newly established human resources Classification and Compensation Center of Excellence and will serve as an expert resource and strategic partner for six universities and two special school’s human resources departments and will be responsible for strategic and comprehensive position classification and employee compensation management for the SDBOR system. This position will serve the entire Board of Regents system, with a primary work location of Pierre, SD.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, business administration, or related degree is required.
- Experience performing compensation activities including, conducting pay setting analysis, providing compensation recommendations, developing compensation guidance, labor market analysis, and so forth; OR,
- Experience performing classification activities including job analysis, determining FLSA status, developing position descriptions and determining appropriate position titles.
- Experience analyzing data for the purpose of generating written reports, recommendations, or summaries for a general audience or identified trends/patterns.
- Interpreting state or federal policies, procedures, laws, or regulations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to prepare written reports, present recommendations and prepare documentation.
- Excellent people skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Ability to read, understand and enforce policies, laws and guidelines.

- Ability to maintain data integrity through accuracy, prioritize and meet aggressive deadlines, and process, manipulate, and summarize reports.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Knowledge of HR practices and principles.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Experience administering the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Proficiency in HRIS database management, analysis, logic, and report generation.
- Strong knowledge of compensation programs including base pay and variable pay.
- Ability to conduct and analyze salary surveys, benchmark jobs, conduct desk audits, perform data analysis, prepare reports, and make recommendations.
- Ability to compare and contrast information, identify differentiations, understand organizational structures, missions and cultures.
