Summary: The Consumer Collections Specialist is responsible for daily distribution of past due report and contact of past due mortgage pool customers. Position has a focus on problem resolution and minimizing losses. The Consumer Collections Specialist must ensure a high level of service to our customers and adhere to strict compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations relating to credit and collections.
Responsibilities and Expectations
1.Coordination & Distribution of Delinquency Reports
- Distribute daily & weekly past due reports to markets
2.Consumer & Residential Mortgage Loan Collection & Repossession
- Establishes contact with borrowers after the tenth day of delinquency.
- Identifies reasons for payment delinquencies and works on problem resolutions.
- Obtains documents and monitors promises to pay from borrowers via telephone contact.
- Contacts borrowers who have not fulfilled the promise contact as needed.
- Skip traces borrowers as needed.
- Coordinates with local branch offices site visits and collateral inspections.
- Resolves documentation exceptions.
- Works on fraud cases to ensure that the maximum amount is collected for the bank.
- Recommends repossession of collateral on delinquent consumer accounts.
- Coordinates repossession with markets and auto auctions
- Tracks and reports on current repossession of the bank
- Recommends charge offs on delinquent consumer accounts and submits appropriate documentation
- Recommends accounts to be turned over to an outside, third party collection agency.
3.Consumer Checking Account Charge Offs
- Establish contact with checking account customers to collect on charged off fees and checking account balances.
- Skip trace and use skip trace services to locate customers.
4.Monitors efforts of collection agency.
- Maintains files of judgments sent to collection agency.
5.Employee is responsible for understanding and following the applicable laws and regulations for their job responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Equity Bank’s Business Ethics and Conduct Policy;
- Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”);
- Suspicious Activity Report (“SAR);
- Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”);
- The Service Members Civil Relief Act (“SCRA”);
- Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act of 2009.
6. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills & Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required. Emphasis on Business, Finance and Accounting.
- Minimum of two years related experience in consumer / mortgage collections, credit, loan operations, consumer lending.
- Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deal with difficult borrowers, resolve problems and work well under pressure.

Physical Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, bending, and squatting on a regular basis. May require the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or reach with hands and arms.
