Robert Half is reviewing candidates for a renowned wine company for an ambitious, determined Controller. The leadership position is responsible for an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. - Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month
- Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
- Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
- Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
- Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
- Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
- Assure client expectations are met by reviewing deliverables of self and team
- Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
- CPA or MBA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
- Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Earlier work preparing Month-end Financial Statements
- Quality experience with month end closings
- Experience with Prepaids
- General familiarity with Accounts Receivable (AR) & Accounts Payable (AP)
- Solid understanding of Costing and inventory accounting
- General familiarity with budget forecasting
- Prior experience with GAAP Accounting
- Experience with Annual Budget
- Comprehensive knowledge of general ledger
- Well-founded grasp of Budget Processes
- Practical knowledge of Analyze Variance
- Hands-on experience with US GAAP
- Accomplished in analytical, quantitative and social skills
- Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
- Self-starter and strong ethical standards
