Within the Thayne Center for Student Life, Leadership, & Community Engagement, the Coordinator for the Bruin Pantry oversees the operations of pantry sites across several Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) campuses. Primary responsibilities include the development and supervision of pantry staff, referrals to on and off campus resources, and planning and implementation of day-to-day operations. This includes logistics, maintenance, data collection and reporting, education and outreach numerous stakeholders with the SLCC Community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners. The success of this role is measured by the successful daily operation of the network and through analysis of visitor demographics.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Operations of Bruin Pantry Network:
Comprehensive oversight of the Bruin Pantry network including campus pantries at four locations: Redwood Taylorsville, Jordan Campus, South City Campus, and West Valley City.
Organizational Leadership:
Work with other members of the Thayne Center team in service to students and the mission of the institution. This includes initiatives from the center beyond direct services to through case.
Case Management:
Respond to referrals from multiple campus stakeholders. Holding 1:1 conversations and making connections to resources with students.
Budget Management:
Ethically follow the fiscal responsibilities of the college and maintain assigned budgets.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college is required in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Communication, Sociology, Education, Nutrition, Health, Social Services Delivery, Management, Logistics, or related field.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of direct, full-time, paid professional experience in college student affairs, non-profit, social services industries.
- Experience working with diverse students which includes students of color, sexual minorities, students with disabilities, non-traditional students, etc.
- Applicant must have scheduling flexibility to accommodate attendance at occasionally early morning meetings, late evenings and weekend programs, retreats and conferences.
- Trade off 2:1 in experience/education requirement.
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Cultural and Social Studies, Consumer and Community Studies, Social Sciences, Food Systems, Ecology, or Ecojustice Education
Strong knowledge of and proven experience with
- Assessment – using data software to disaggregate demographic data and share visitor usage data.
- Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural- centered approaches.
- Bilingual or multilingual.
- Management and logistical experience.
Operations of Bruin Pantry Network

- Promote, hire, and develop staff supporting the pantry network which includes student leaders (Campus Internship Program, fee waiver, Peer Leaders) and other part-time staff.
- Coordinate weekly delivery and receiving of food from community partners, including perishable food items that need to be refrigerated.
- Coordinate distribution and redistribution of food donations from main pantry location, located at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, to other campuses and sites (South City Campus, Jordan Campus, West Valley Center, Herriman Campus).
- Coordinate daily distribution hours across network of pantries.
- Outreach and promotion of pantry goods such as food, hygiene, and other household items.
- Refer students to other internal and external partners and resources.
- Maintain accurate and timely data and reports pertaining the utilization of the pantry network.
Case management for food insecurity

- Maintain a campus-wide case management program for students who need access to food.
- Holding 1:1 conversations and making connections to resources with students.
- Conduct follow-up contacts in response to student’s needs and case management support.
- Provide comprehensive and cohesive services, information, and programs to all SLCC students for food insecurity.
