Job Title: Cost Estimator

SUMMARY: The Cost Estimator is responsible for accurately developing costs for LEWCO company products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Possess the ability to learn basic fabrication and manufacturing processes to understand how industrial equipment is built, and the amount of time it takes.
- Evaluate customer RFQ’s with the sales team to determine LEWCO’s ability to manufacture products that meet customer requirements.
- Use existing estimating tools to aid in determining labor hours and materials required to build a given product.
- Review customer RFQ’s with sales team and specify company product(s) to meet customer applications.
- Prepare cost estimates for company products by using estimating tools and/or historical cost data from company’s ERP system.
- Interact with LEWCO’s purchasing team and vendors to get quotes for parts needed to build the product(s) they are quoting.
- Consult engineering and production supervisors for input on more complex equipment to formulate cost estimates.
- Prepare, send, and follow-up on quotations as assigned.
- Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as fabrication, machining, and welding.
- Knowledge of product design and shop floor processes in order to estimate product cost.
- Excellent people skills as required for customer interaction and to team with other LEWCO personnel in meeting customer expectations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree and 5 years minimum work experience. An associate degree may be considered with the right relative experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and understand customer drawings and specifications.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Excellent math skills are required. Individuals in this position must be able to perform basic engineering calculations employing algebra, trigonometry and geometry as required.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, specifically excel, and must be able to navigate DWG files. Possess ability to learn company’s ERP and CRM software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. Employee spends some time on shop floor. Most of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer and using the phone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is a pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation maybe located on 2nd floor. The employee works in the office setting but does have frequent interaction on shop floor and may also occasionally work in customer’s plants reviewing new applications or installed equipment. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed.
