From airports to boardrooms, our Legal team provides advice and counsel on all aspects of the business, assessing legal risks and compliance, while our Ethics and Compliance team ensures that we run an ethically sound operation. Key Responsibilities:

Counsel for United Airlines, Inc.’s in-house Legal Department providing legal counsel and guidance on all aspects of procurement transactions (with an emphasis on information technology-related transactions, including SAAS subscriptions) and related legal matters. The attorney who fills this position will be a member of a diverse and highly competent legal team, reporting to the Associate General Counsel – Commercial Transactions.

  • Work directly with Procurement teams and internal business units to draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements related to Procurement transactions and other matters, with an emphasis on IT Procurement matters.
  • Independently handle and provide useful and practical counseling to internal business partners, including United’s IT Procurement team, in connection with IT procurement (primarily software licenses and purchases); draft and negotiate related agreements and, as necessary, other commercial agreements
  • Independently handle and provide useful and practical counseling to internal business partners in connection with general procurement matters, including consulting services agreements, general services agreements, and HR related agreements; draft and negotiate related agreements
  • Strategically, and in an efficient manner, manage and partner with outside counsel to ensure execution and delivery of high-quality work product

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • At least 5+ years of practice with a law firm or large multinational company in the United States
  • Minimum 3 years Law firm experience
  • Member in good standing of the bar in any jurisdiction of the United States and, soon after employment, must become authorized to practice law in-house for United in Illinois
  • Ability to draft complex commercial agreements, and advise on commercial procurement related matters, with an emphasis on IT procurement
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding negotiation skills and excellent eye for business
  • Dedication to high standards of quality and ethics
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across multiple functions and departments
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively set priorities
  • Must be a strategic problem solver with a proven ability to give practical, timely, clear, and accurate legal advice
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • This role follows a hybrid scheduling model

  • Prior in-house legal experience at a multi-national company
  • Solid understanding of market terms in IT agreements
  • Knowledge of aviation/airline industry
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
