Job Description:
The City of Cockrell Hill is in search of a Bilingual Court Clerk that will perform clerical and administrative functions necessary to support the Municipal Court. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Court Manager.
The ideal candidate will take on complex challenges, provide high-quality service, and perform a broad range of court duties.
That includes but is not limited to clerical, data entry, filing, maintaining computer records, office work, working with standardized correspondence, court dockets, and assisting the judge in and out of the courtroom.
The clerk will collect and process fines and bond payments in accordance with violations related to state laws and city ordinances. Will handle and manage a personal cash drawer and balance at the end of the business day.
Assist with other court administrative duties as assigned by the Court Manager.
Minimum Job requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must pass the criminal background check, drug screen, and physical test.
- Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance for the assigned work hours is required.
Job requirements:
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking is required.
- Computer knowledge is required in general Microsoft programs (word, excel, etc.)
- Cash-handling experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Performs administrative support functions pertaining to municipal court operations.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of court and work-related issues.
- Ability to work with the public and handle adverse situations in a courteous manner.
- Assist customers with questions regarding tickets and payment of fines.
- Collect fines, fees, bonds, and miscellaneous payments.
- Display good decision-making abilities.
- Maintain court records and files in an accurate and timely manner.
- Work closely with the police department.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues, consistently make sound decisions, and provide exceptional customer service.
- Be a front-line person on the phone and at the window.
Other Duties:
- Travel to attend meetings, conferences, and/or training as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Court Manager.
- Provide support to other departments as directed by the City Administrator or designee.
- Dress professionally for office attire
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment and an outdoor environment for outdoor events.
- May be subject to repetitive motions such as typing, data entry, and vision.
- May require standing, sitting, and walking.
- May be subject to occasional lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, pulling, and crouching.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in stressful situations and fast-paced environments.

Schedule:
The days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Fridays until 5:30 pm. Extended work hours may include alternating Fridays.
The clerk will be assigned some evening and/or weekend work with advance notice for necessary or special events.
