The incumbent conducts daily routine cleaning services to campus buildings, classrooms, auditoriums, lecture halls, gymnasiums, locker rooms, office, and/or spaces as assigned, providing a clean and sanitary facility; and removes snow as required and assigned, but not limited to a designated facility, shoveling, sweeping, blowing or other means of removal as needed, along with applying ice melting agents to those areas. This position is considered Essential and requires employees to be at work during closures due to weather or other circumstances.
- Routine collection and relocation of recyclable material.
- Waste and refuse collection and disposal from offices, common areas and exterior trash receptacles as required.
- Routine cleaning and sanitation/disinfecting of restroom facilities including the cleaning of toilets, urinals, stalls, mirrors, and mopping of floors. Objective: leaving the space clean, sanitary, and free undesirable odors.
- Routine restocking of building and restroom supplies including soap, toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and feminine products as required.
- Routine vacuuming, extraction/encapsulation, spot treating, of carpeted areas throughout designated space to ensure a clean appearance. Including offices, classroom, runner rugs, lobbies and foyers.
- Routine dusting and sanitation with microfiber rags and specified polish/cleaner of desktops, furniture, ledges, window sills, blinds, classroom furniture, and other items as required.
- Cleaning of upholstered furniture using extraction method as required.
- Routine cleaning of interior and exterior glass surfaces throughout each designated facility.
- Routine cleaning and disinfecting of hard nonporous surfaces including classroom desks, lab tables and other items as necessary/required
- Move furniture and equipment as needed or directed. Including office furniture, classroom furniture, and general custodial trade tools and equipment.
- Order supplies and inventory utilizing provided order form and provide to supervisor to coordinate delivery.
- Independently schedule office maintenance with supervisor, faculty and staff including Strip and wax, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, and other tasks that are performed on a regular, but not routine/daily basis.
- Perform all phases of hard surface floor care including but not limited to scrub and recoat w/wax, strip and recoat w/wax, buff, burnish, polish, and seal.
- Familiar with the operation and maintenance of the following equipment and trade tools, auto scrubber, manual scrubber 150 to 300rpm, burnisher 800 to 1200 rpm, carpet extractor, encapsulation unit, wet vac, vacuum, mops, brooms, and other tools as required.
- Laundering of athletic uniforms, draperies, table clothes and other necessary items pertaining to the function and operation of university facilities or athletic departments.
- Cleaning of lights, bollards, and signage on or adjacent to designated facilities to remove cob webs, bugs or residues that may affect appearance or function.
- Assist with inter-departmental needs as required ex: Clean up after renovations, tile replacements or other duties as assigned

- Continually maintain facilities in a manner to extend longevity and provide a clean managed appearance. Extending the life cycle of carpets, tile, furniture and other items to maximize investment dollars.
- Utilize resources, equipment, and supplies in a fiscally responsible manner. Measuring solutions to manufacturers recommendations.
- Provide routine cleaning and maintenance to equipment to extend life cycle i.e: Cleaning auto scrubbers after usage, changing vac bags as necessary, checking water levels on batteries.
- May act as a lead worker in larger scale projects if necessary or during special events

- 1 to 2 year’s custodial experience preferred in a commercial work place
- Experience providing cleaning services in a commercial setting.

- Employment is conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.
Appointment is provisional provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your three background checks are returned to the Human Resource office prior to your hire date.
