JOB SUMMARY:

Performs routine building cleaning does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This is repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning and outdoor maintenance duties. An employee in this class works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, receiving specific instructions on each new or unusual assignments. The work is reviewed via inspection by the Custodial Supervisor.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Sweeps, scrubs, strips, waxes and buffs floors; Washes windows; Dusts woodwork, furniture and other articles;Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms and replenishes supplies;Empties waste cans, and ash trays;Replaces light bulbs;Vacuums carpets and upholstered chairs;Empties trash into the hopper.Shampoo carpets.Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works indoors in adequate workspace with adequate temperatures, ventilation and lighting. Works with average exposure to noise both indoors and outdoors Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt; more exposure when cleaning air ducts Subject to different shifts as needed Subject to working in adverse conditions, depending on assignment.

PHYSICAL and MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, follow instructions Must be able to stand and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping or driving, as necessary, to carry out job duties. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands, feet/legs, and torso as required for job duties. Heavy work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 20-25 pounds; occasionally lifting 100 pounds. Must demonstrate emotional stability Must be able to move frequently throughout the day Must have average strength and physical endurance and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds if necessary

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Some knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; thoroughness; dependability.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE and TRAINING:

Preferably some building cleaning experience and completion of the twelth school grade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, must have a valid PA driver’s license, must be willing to submit to a security check, skills and abilities.
