The Computing & IT Cybersecurity group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst/Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to work with a talented family of designers, engineers, cyber security experts, analysts, and product managers as they partner with multi-disciplinary teams across the DOE enterprise, driving the technical vision and leading efforts to train and maintain the readiness of cyber defenders and a workforce to be cyber savvy and safe.

Responsibilities:
The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) will help laboratory leadership and staff maintain awareness and practice behaviors that keep PNNL safe from cyber adversaries.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, maintain, and implement the System Security Plans (SSPs), and associated documentation for information systems for which they are responsible
  • Conducting continuous monitoring and other security control assessments of information systems to periodically verify and report that security features and operating controls are implemented correctly, operating as intended, and producing the desired outcomes
  • Performing ongoing risk assessments to determine if additional countermeasures beyond those identified in the program’s risk assessment are required
  • Developing and implementing appropriate cyber security awareness training for staff and management for their understanding of cyber security responsibilities for accessing information systems and protecting electronic data
  • Improving, tailoring, and refining existing InfoSec tools
  • Coordinating work on significant and/or complex cybersecurity issues requiring analysis and interpretation of potential solutions and associated data
  • Evaluate and recommend new software tools and packages for possible inclusion in the security software stack
  • Coordinate classified matter and protection control
  • Communicating complex IT technical and cyber issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing solutions to mitigate known & emerging cyber threats
  • Leading or participating in reviews, assessments, security plans, and publications relevant to the classified security systems.
  • Provide expert-level knowledge of the Risk Management Framework
  • Identify security controls and conduct security audit reviews
  • Coordinate all security testing exercises
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
  • MS/MA and 3+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
  • PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience performing system security analysis and risk management
  • Creating security test plans and performing hands on security testing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management methodologies
  • Technical experiences with system configuration, demonstrated experience with Linux and virtual platforms
  • Communicating vulnerability results and risk posture to senior executives
  • Expertise in Information Security policies and guidance
  • Knowledge in classic and emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities and demonstrated ability to apply that knowledge to risk evaluation as well as mitigation strategies through system engineering, analytics, and/or operations
  • Measurement tools for vulnerability assessment, detection, and mitigation
  • Information security policies and procedures
  • Experience implementing standard NIST controls, risk assessments, and contingency planning activities
  • Experience developing strong, cooperative working relationships with cyber security stakeholders
  • Experience with cyber readiness audits and inspections
  • Demonstrated passion for learning and developing creative solutions within a dynamic, technically challenging work environment

Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.
Testing Designated Position (TDP):
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
