Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking a Data Analyst (Remote) for our Lakeville, Minnesota location. This is a remote position that can be located in: AL, FL, IL, IN, IA, KY, MD, MN, MO, NE, NV, PA, SC, TX, and WI.
Job Summary:
The Data Analyst is a crucial member of the Business Intelligence team that will work collaboratively across the department and company performing necessary data analyses and queries to solve business problems. The Data Analyst is responsible for the design, development, and analysis of complex queries, reports, and data extracts from multiple data sources to enable the company to make smart, data-driven, and fiscally sound business decisions. The Data Analyst will provide company-wide expertise on reporting best practices including data modeling, report design, and environment management. This is a remote position that can be located in: AL, FL, IL, IN, IA, KY, MD, MN, MO, NE, NV, PA, SC, TX, and WI.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and maintain custom reports and custom SQL queries utilizing the company’s Business Intelligence (BI) visualization and reporting tools. This includes the process to gather the data and validate the data against source systems. Deploy BI and data solutions in production environments with an emphasis on SQL, data transformation and visualizations, for consumption by end users throughout the company.
- Build custom data extractions, data summarizations, data prep processes for ongoing initiatives within the BI department set forth by the company utilizing SQL against multiple databases. This includes the data extractions and summarizations required for validation of reports, metadata models, and database tables as they relate to the company initiative at hand. Provide insights, analyses, anomalies, testing results, key insights, and deliver actionable recommendations.
- Coordinate with the BI team to evaluate, challenge, and critique existing solutions and their impact on the company. Provide insights on project feasibility based on requirements gathered from management and SMEs (subject matter experts).
- Maintain custom developed SQL programs and reports to ensure ongoing viability and usability
- Provide support, clarification, and field questions pertaining to custom developed reports. Be a knowledge base for the Business Intelligence team as it relates to complex queries and the data utilized.
- Maintain documentation, run schedules, and inventory of SQL programs and reports developed and deployed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High School diploma/GED required.
- More than 2 years, full time, writing SQL utilizing common data extraction and manipulation tools and techniques in a professional environment is desired.
- Experience with relational databases such as IBM DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, or similar is preferred.
- Experience with IBM Cognos Analytics or IBM Planning Analytics/TM1 is preferred.
- Experience with IBM iSeries/AS400/Power Systems is preferred.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, employment policies, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Curious mind that seeks out best practices and continuous improvement
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL (selects, joins, unions, common table expressions, updates, deletes, data formatting)
- Familiarity with SQL editor tools such as Toad, SSMS, DBeaver, SQL Developer, or similar.
- Demonstrated understanding of data warehousing concepts
- Ability to convert business requirements into functional requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and problem solve
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is preferred
- Working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools is preferred (IBM Cognos, Tableau, Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI, or similar)
- Basic computer skills, ability to operate a Windows-based computer and data entry
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Equipment Used:
Regularly uses typical office equipment to include computer, keyboard and terminal, scanner, and copier.
Work Environment:
Work will be performed indoors in a temperature-controlled climate where moderate heat, cold or humidity may be experienced. Moderate exposure to dust and dirt may also be expected. Work will typically be performed Monday through Friday. Working more than 40 hours per workweek may be required.
