Job Summary

LASP is seeking an individual with software engineering and/or scientific programming skills to support science data processing and analysis of scientific instrument data for NASA space science missions. As a member of our team, you will apply your unique abilities to the implementation of scientific processing algorithms, maintenance and improvement of existing systems, as well as the development of new capabilities and scientific data analysis. Your contribution will be essential for transforming raw instrument data into publicly accessible research-grade science data products that support the science community in furthering our understanding of the universe around us.

LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. CU receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Develop and implement software for the processing, analysis, and visualization of scientific and engineering data from space science missions on Linux-based systems – we use a variety of languages on different projects (Python, Java, IDL, C/C++, etc.).
  • Support science research efforts including collection and analysis of ground testing data and in-flight calibration data.
  • Support scientists in developing algorithms and producing and analyzing data products.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, students, and scientists to develop software requirements that meet project needs.
  • Communicate solutions by creating documentation, flowcharts, diagrams, and clear code.
  • Apply software engineering best practices in the development process.
  • Collaborate with and support teammates by reviewing the work of others for techniques, procedures, and technical approach.

What You Should Know

  • Occasional limited travel may be necessary to support remote instrument / project activities lasting up to 1 week at a time.
  • Candidates may be asked for software coding samples and/or participate in a coding exercise.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $67,775 - $85,000 annually. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting. Relocation assistance is available per institute guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science, computer science, a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 0-1 years of work experience with bachelor's degree.

What You Will Need

  • Familiarity with the Linux/Unix command line.
  • Love of science and an interest in software-related technologies and analysis techniques.
