About the Role:

Our industry-leading Data Analytics Solution Center at Suffolk Construction is seeking a qualified Data Visualization Developer passionate about data, analytics, and data visualization. The ideal candidate will come from a data analytics or IT background and have experience with data visualization, data engineering and possess business analytics skills. This role will require both creative and collaborative work within the Data Analytics Solution Center and Suffolk’s wider business.

The Data Visualization Developer will be responsible for gathering requirements, conducting analyses, preparing and cleaning data, and building interactive data visualizations. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of designing our company’s next generation of data visualization products.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to determine project scope and vision.
  • Perform requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
  • Design, develop, and enhance data visualizations that make data more accessible, understandable, and actionable.
  • Maintain existing dashboards used by the organization, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
  • Devise, develop, and deploy required data queries in response to business user needs.
  • Develop rich interactive visualizations that are intuitive, easy to use, and understand.
  • Ensure the high adoption rate of dashboards by focusing on UI/UX and data quality of products created.
  • Design and deliver end-user training and training materials; provide technical support as necessary.
  • Prepare, blend, and cleanse data from multiple sources to design extracts for optimal use with Tableau or Power BI.
  • Work with the Data Management team to develop models in the data warehouse.
  • Assist in maintaining and optimizing Tableau Server.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, or a related quantitative field [or equivalent work experience] is required.
  • At least 3 years of data or analytics experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau (preferred) or Power BI, with an aptitude to learn new tools.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a cross-functional team and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of departmental and/or multi-departmental data or analytics initiatives.
  • Experience in data sourcing, transformation, and clean up, using tools such as SQL (preferred), Alteryx (preferred), or programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Knowledge of different chart types and how to leverage them to answer specific questions.
  • Ability to build complex calculations to manipulate data.
  • Ability to format (UI/UX) your visualizations and dashboards for maximum impact.
  • Experience developing and shaping data with SQL.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, charting, macros, calculations).
  • Understanding of data architecture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Construction experience preferred but not required.
  • Tableau Desktop certification(s) or PowerBI (Exam DA-100) preferred.
