Duties & Responsibilities
Job Summary
This position is responsible for directing the operations and programs of the School of Trades and Technology. The position requires knowledge of higher education, strong management skills, and innovative approaches to serving the needs of students and the community.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and supervision in recruiting, developing and evaluating Program Coordinators/Directors, full-time faculty, part time faculty, and staff. Serves on or appoints members of faculty hiring committees; determines, approves and monitors faculty workload and release time; and appoints faculty to college committees and teams. Ensures that all faculty have appropriate qualifications for the courses assigned to them, use pedagogy appropriate to a diverse student body and develop skills across course delivery methods.

  • Ensures the quality of school programs and course offerings through course and program development that is responsive to student and community needs. Works with faculty to ensure that courses and programs have appropriate and aligned learning outcomes that are regularly assessed per college assessment and program review processes and that revisions are made as appropriate for continuous program improvement. Recommends new programs, program expansions, and program closures as needed. Manages curricular processes, e.g. oversight, and approval to changes of syllabi, courses, and program proposals and to revisions in degree plans.

  • Oversees the development of the annual schedule of course offerings that serves the needs of students and the community; maximizes enrollment and the efficient use of resources, including decisions regarding course additions and cancellations.

  • Manages budgets and reviews requests for expenditures; develops annual plans and reports in support of the budgeting process; approves travel and other expenditures.

  • Coordinates with other academic schools to meet institutional and instructional goals and objectives.

  • Mediates and resolves faculty, staff and student conflicts.

  • Serves on the Learning Leadership Team and President’s Cabinet, as well as other college teams and/or committees. Participates in school and college strategic planning.

  • Works with the community, including K-12 partners, as well as the Center for Workforce Development to create secondary and workforce to college pathways for students. Negotiates contracts, memorandums of understanding, and agreement with College clients to develop and implement program initiatives and partnerships.

  • Works with community partners to ensure the relevance of program offerings. Such efforts include the development and expansion of apprenticeship, online, and industry-recognized certificate programs.

. Develops and supports grant initiatives, particularly those that increase funding for best practices in teaching and learning and which provide direct support to students and faculty. Grants may also support new programs, program expansion, student organizations, and experiential learning activities. Provides oversight and accountability for grant-funded programs and initiatives, ensuring that required reporting is completed in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the school.

  • Performs related duties.


Qualifications
Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
