Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Department Superintendent in our Rome, Georgia lumber mill. The Department Superintendent will oversee the Dry End Department that includes a MOCO crib stacker, CDK and Batch kilns, planer and shipping areas. They will be responsible for leading a state-of-the-art wood products operations team in a safe manufacturing environment consistent with PBM® management philosophy and framework.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure specific department operates safely, effectively, and efficiently.

  • Fully utilize Maintenance Process Optimization (MPO) process to track work completion and promote preventive & predictive maintenance.
  • Facilitate team development and growth through a robust PBM® processes of RRE and performance management, including compensation management.
  • Build employee commitment, ownership, and accountability by capturing their hearts and minds in the vision of a better state.
  • Responsible for the department’s Talent position by identifying contributions and missed opportunities by team members.
  • Drive safety excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership, and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies based on the risk involved.
  • Monitor the quality of work and provide direction to team members to maximize efficiency.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and solving production issues.
  • Provide safety training to team members.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience in Dry End manufacturing or Dry End Maintenance environment.

  • Experience in leading a department or organization in EH&S, Reliability, Production, Cost and Quality Excellence.
  • Experience in analyzing production data to eliminate waste and foster continuous improvement.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to learn various PC-based production and operations applications.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • Superintendent experience in lumber operations.
  • Dry Kiln experience.
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) - SAP, MP2, ActivePlant.


For this role, we anticipate paying $85,000 - $125,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
