Department: Drafting & Detailing - Mezzanine Engineering
Position reports to: Drafting/Detailing Manager
Summary:
Under the direction of the Drafting & Detailing Manager, the Design Engineer I creates plans, details, and fabrication drawings for small to medium scale custom mezzanine products. Other duties and responsibilities as required per the Drafting/Detailing Manager.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques.
- Utilize computer aided 3D software to perform applicable drafting/detailing. Work from specifications and product requirements.
- Make required calculations to establish acceptable standards of performance material selection and construction type within engineered parameters.
- Develop small to medium scale designs that can be produced economically to maintain or improve company's competitive position.
- Detail mezzanines with economical use of materials and ease of fabrication and installation.
- Prepare orders for manufacturing by providing fabrication and purchasing instructions.
- Calculate weights of job.
- Create general arrangement and piece part drawings.
- Prepares installation instructions.
- Input BOM and method of manufacturing into ERP system.
- Execute revisions and maintain proper documentation for revision levels, files, and notes.
- Prepares documents for PE sealing.
- Drive cost savings through continuous improvement throughout the department, affecting processes and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in structural, civil, architectural, mechanical engineering, or related field of study.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft software.
- Familiar with project management techniques.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as basic algebraic equations and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate proficiently and effectively in English with customers or employees of organization.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment (copier/printer)
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
