Position Summary:
As a manager, this position will develop and implement fundraising strategies and oversee fundraising programs; create fundraising goals and solicit funds to meet these goals. In alignment with the Foundation’s strategic goals, the Development Manager will build and manage a portfolio of donors, create and oversee a monthly giving program, and lead additional fundraising initiatives, depending on skillset and experience.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, proficient written and oral communications, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills. This position will play a critical role in broadening the donor base, upgrading donors, and improving donor retention.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. An estimated 50%, or more, of time spent in this role will revolve around Mid-Level and Major Donor Cultivation & Solicitation. This includes:
- Developing and managing a portfolio of donors for face-to-face solicitation
- Identifying, cultivating, and stewarding meaningful relationships with established and prospective donors.
- Using prospect research to develop targets and solicitation strategies.
- Creating and managing a monthly giving program.
- Leading tours of the Pines campus for current and prospective donors and funders.
- Focus on relationship-building and creating a donor-centric experience for all donors and prospects.
2. The balance of time in this role will be spent on one or more of the following fundraising initiatives. The final determination will be based on the chosen candidate’s skill set and professional experience.
- Grants management, including grant writing, reporting on outcomes to funders, conducting research and outreach for new prospective grantors, and working with Pines of Sarasota staff to develop program budgets and deliverables.
- Creating and managing a digital fundraising program, including e-communications, e- solicitations, social media, and online ads.
- Overseeing certain direct mail programs such as mid-year or year-end appeals.
Necessary Experience & Skills:
- Demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitation of donors.
- Knowledge and firsthand experience of donor relations, the donor cycle, prospect research, and donor pipelines.
- Direct experience with one or more of the areas outlined in Primary Responsibilities #2 above.
- A genuine enthusiasm for relationship-building and connecting with people to inspire them to support the Pines mission.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to display the highest level of professionalism, diplomacy, tact, and compassion in all interactions with donors, prospects, board members, colleagues, and the general public.
- Excellent organizational skills, including ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and take initiative.
- Ability to collect and utilize data to enhance proposals and reporting.
- Ability to problem solve, work independently, but also thrive in a dynamic team setting.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in face-to-face solicitation of donors and directly creating and managing fundraising strategies within a nonprofit organization. A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience with one or more of the areas outlined in Primary Responsibilities #2 above.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but experience may be substituted for degree. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and platforms such as DonorPerfect and Constant Contact.
This is a full-time, salaried, in-office position. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. Salary range is $60,000-$75,000. A full range of benefits include healthcare, dental, vision, PTO, and a retirement plan.
