Your Role:
The Registered Dietitian works with the multidisciplinary team at Mid Coast Senior Health Center to prescribe person-centered therapeutic diets and to prevent and treat malnutrition among residents. The Registered Dietitian provides support and consultation to the Manager of Food Services in assessing and adjusting dietary systems, including reviewing and approving all menus and education and training of staff members as needed. Registered Dietitian plays a crucial part in promoting residents’ optimal nutrition and quality of life.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE).
- License/Certifications: Registered Dietitian or eligible for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Licensure as required by state of Maine.
- Experience: 1 year of long-term care or geriatric nutrition experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the nutrition care process and ability to apply all steps of the process.
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.
- Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations.
- Decision making, problem solving, and collaboration.
- Ability to communicate effectively to patients, family members, public, healthcare team, and physicians.
- Ability to be a self-learner and to function independently as the sole dietitian at the facility
- Ability to counsel and educate others.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
