We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Director of the Consult Service! The NL Acadia Consult Team provides psychiatric assessment in emergency departments and medical inpatient units at 23 hospitals across the State, primarily through telepsychiatry. This position requires a high level of initiative, autonomy, exceptional problem-solving skills, innovative thinking, conflict resolution skills & customer service soft skills. The successful candidate must also have a focus on growth, relationship building, a thorough knowledge of the community-based service landscape in Maine, be well connected, and highly confident. This is a high visibility position often liaising between different service arms of NL Acadia Hospital. The successful candidate will have a master's level social worker or professional counselor with at least five years of leadership experience as well as three years of experience with community-based services at the masters or bachelor's level. Summary:
The Director of Consultation Services has responsibility for managing the Hospital’s Consultation and Consultation Liaison Services teams, overseeing the contract with Bangor Police Department and serves as a liaison with the many partners who receive these services. The Director ensures that services run efficiently and are rendered in a timely, relevant, measurable, high quality manner consistent with the policies and procedures of Northern Light Acadia Hospital. The Director implements strategies; establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders, including service leaders at partner organizations. The Director apprises Acadia leaders of partner needs and collaborates with internal leaders to address service delivery gaps.
Responsibilities :
- Leads by both action and example.
- Provides adequate staffing coverage across services.
- Participates in design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical operations.
- Periodically re-assesses one’s own job performance, learning needs and leadership aspects of professional role.
- Allocates staffing resources effectively to ensure smooth day-to-day operations across services.
- Manages performance reports to measure program effectiveness, quality and operational efficiency.
- Leads or collaborates in performance improvement activities, and the hardwiring of change.
- Serves as a liaison with service line leaders of the partner organizations, soliciting feedback and leading problem-solving initiatives internally that better serve the partner.
- Creates, manages, and reports key performance indicators.
- Identifies recruitment needs and participates in recruitment activities.
- Participates in the preparation of a yearly budget.
- Manages departmental budget throughout the year.
- Oversees Police Liaison Service.
- Liaises with internal and external stakeholders for service improvement.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding Northern Light Health Code of Conduct and ethical business practices.
- Demonstrated comfort level with highly conflictual meetings and/or conversations and ability to de-escalate and problem solve in these moments
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates expert knowledge of clinical evaluation and treatment including community services.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, Federal and State regulatory bodies.
- Participates in design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical service provisions.
- Participates in designing, implementing and evaluating clinical program performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensures that clinical care across services is relevant, high quality and recovery-oriented.
- Leads and develops clinical supervisors of the service.
- Ensures efficient hand-off and transitions of patients across levels of care and within the community.
- Establishes consistent methods for monitoring clinical documentation content that reflects high-quality patient care.
- Ensures development and consistent implementation of department orientation for new clinician providers and ongoing clinical staff development initiatives.
- Employs supervisory processes necessary to ensure alignment of clinical supervisors to program and clinical practice standards.
- Completes employee performance evaluations on time.
Other Information:
Five years professional experience in a behavioral health setting. Minimum of three years of demonstrated leadership required.

Education
- Required Master's degree in a behavioral health field and a professional, clinical, Maine license required. LCSW preferred but other master’s or doctoral level clinical degrees and licenses will be considered.
