About the Program
In 2016, AUW became one of 12 States to join the United for ALICE national movement to bring awareness of Hawaii’s working poor above the federal poverty line yet struggling to afford basic expenses. Since then, AUW has established the ALICE Investment Fund to develop impact programs demonstrating solutions to ALICE. In 2021, AUW partnered with Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) to expand the fund & ALICE network. AUW & HCF have adopted a collective impact framework, is practicing trust-based philanthropy, and works in a highly collaborative environment with shared responsibility related to marketing/communications, fundraising/revenue generation, grant-making, and program implementation.
About the Role
Under the direction of AUW’s Vice President of Community Impact and in partnership with HCF’s Program Director of its Community and Economy Sector; the ALICE Program Director works in partnership with cohort(s) and partner(s) to provide consulting, facilitation, and resources to design, implement, and manage ALICE programs through community outreach, engagement, collective impact strategies, programming, and special projects. The Program Director manages the ALICE Initiative, which includes facilitating the collective impact cohort, research and evaluation, data and reporting, and supporting marketing and communication, and stewardship of the ALICE Fund. The Director also provides leadership for program development strategies, regular communication to funders, convening & managing advisory committees, and grantmaking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Backbone Leadership
· Provides supportive management of the ALICE Initiative aimed at demonstrating transformational change and upward economic mobility for ALICE households.
· Facilitates partner convenings for strategic dialogue to progress shared goals, metrics, and strategies through clear communication, active listening, objective facilitation, and public speaking.
· Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to apply collective impact practices and strategies.
· Provides adaptive leadership in utilizing collective impact tools, including but not limited to Collective Impact systems, Results-Based Accountability, Asset-Based Community Development, Design for Social Innovation, Community Organizing, and other tools and frameworks.
· Supports building the backbone’s identity as a respected, neutral convener and connector amongst a broad spectrum of grantees and community stakeholders (local and national).
Strategic Learning & Movement Building
· Works in partnership with grantees to learn, evaluate, and support its research and evaluation efforts by providing guidance, expertise and resources to cohort members.
· Provides collaborative oversight in aligning ALICE research studies with collective impact shared metrics, data management, research, and grantee evaluations.
· Helps guide community asset mapping and gap analyses leading to comprehensive service delivery map of ALICE programs and services.
Communications
· Works in partnership with grantees and funders to build communication regarding research and evaluation findings.
· Produces reports that reflect innovation and demonstrated solutions to ALICE.
· Produces information for ALICE advocacy efforts that can be used by partners, stakeholders, and funders.
· Works in partnership with funder communication teams to develop messaging, visuals, and regular communication to planned target audiences and utilizing various communication and marketing channels.
Community Relations & Stewarding Partnerships
· Coordinates partner meetings, gatherings, agendas, and events through event planning and detailed preparation.
· Represents AUW in key networks, including but not limited to United for ALICE, advocacy groups, and Hawaii Housing and Workforce Development huis.
· Provides leadership, facilitation, and management of various ALICE committees, counsels, boards, and stakeholder collaborations.
· Works in partnership with grantees and partners to develop tools and resources that support direct line staff in meeting strategic goals (ex: ALICE Threshold, Benefits Cliff).
· Support and report on programs for the Resource Development & Marketing departments with resources that are needed for fundraising and marketing efforts
Grant Program Management
· Support the design and oversight of an assigned grants portfolio, and independently manages the program from start to finish, including application, evaluation, monitoring, reporting, and compliance functions.
· Support the administrative and operational oversight of the grant-making process, monitoring the budget, and maintaining a fiscal plan to sustain and grow the ALICE Fund long-term in partnership with funder’s donor development teams.
· Manages grant program events, convenings, capacity building, and training.
· Supports oversight of external consultants and vendors to grant programs, if applicable.

The position requires high levels of interpersonal, collaborative, and influencing skills, proficient facilitation and public speaking skills, and the capacity to work across policy, systems, program services, and community change making. Adept and building long-term relationships.
The successful candidate will need to move between programmatic-level details and systemic-level issues affecting ALICE households. This will require a candidate with interdisciplinary and critical thinking skills, who has attention to detail, and is an active listener and strong communicator.
The successful candidate must have a growth-mindset of taking innovative concepts into research and development spaces, and working with partners to develop proofs of concept, results, and demonstrating/communicating impact.
Requirements for the Role
· Has strategically managed and designed programs and projects
· Able to navigate different stakeholders, partners, and personalities
· Has public speaking and facilitator experience
· Ability to provide objective and thoughtful advice and consultation
· Background knowledge in collective impact work
· Highly collaborative between multiple teams and stake holders.
· Grant management experience preferred
Non-profit experience preferred
