Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The University of South Carolina Beaufort seeks dynamic and forward-thinking candidates for the position of Director for the Center for Event Management and Hospitality Training. This position reports to the Office of Academic Affairs and is based at the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Hilton Head Island campus, less than a mile from the beach.
The ideal candidate is a visionary who is self-motivated, able to work independently and within teams, and possess exceptional public relations and communication skills. Primary responsibilities include providing operational, and strategic leadership for the Center for Event Management and Hospitality Training (CEMHT). The Director is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and delivery of hospitality and tourism programming and activities offered by the Center to support the regional economy as a premier tourist destination. The Director will collect and analyze data to optimize programming and exceed customer expectations. Additionally, the Director will track expenditures to ensure a balanced budget and work collaboratively with the USC Office of Sponsored Programs and grantors to prepare requests for proposals, award submissions, annual budgets and grantor reports to ensure compliance with grant and State of South Carolina requirements.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel locally. This position is a grant-funded and subject to availability of funds.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Hospitality, Business, or related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications
10+ years in the hospitality/tourism industry. Skilled leader with strong grant-writing and fiscal management skills. Proven supervisory skills.Strong training and communications skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of an agency’s mission, programs and objectives. Knowledge of management principles. Knowledge of an agency’s organizational structure, the people who manage the work and the processes applicable to government work. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations. Ability to manage work and provide guidance to employees. Ability to make presentations and prepare reports.
