Job Summary
To provide leadership to the district in the alignment and continuous improvement of PK-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development to maximize student achievement of the exit outcomes of the Fort Dodge Community School District are the essential skills and concepts of the Iowa Core Curriculum. To continually provide opportunities for all members of the instructional staff to become knowledgeable concerning research based instructional practices so that the optimum educational experiences will be provided for all students. To lead district wide Comprehensive School Improvement Plan processes and the implantation of strategic goals for continuous, research based educational improvements.

Essential Duties
  • Leads, develops, and supervises the district’s
    • Teacher Leadership and Compensation Systems (TLC)
    • Title I, II, III, and IV state and federal programs
    • K-12 English Language Learners (ELL) program
    • Migrant program
    • K-12 At-Risk program
    • Talented and Gifted (XLP) programs
    • Multi-Tiered systems of support (MTSS)
    • State reporting including
      • School Reporting in Iowa (SRI), CASA, School Information Update, Graduate Verification, Dropouts, Supplementary Weighting, Certified Enrollment, and Assessment Accountability
  • Serves as the immediate line administrator to instruction and curriculum personnel and to the central office staff servicing the educational program.
  • Maintains effective, cooperative, and professional working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the Board of Education.
  • Meets the Standards for School Leaders recommended by state professional associations as evaluated by the Superintendent.
  • Provide leadership to the district in the alignment and continuous improvement of K-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development to maximize student achievement of the exit outcomes of students.
  • Provide opportunities for all members of the instructional staff to become knowledgeable concerning research-based instructional practices so that the optimum educational experiences will be provided for all students.
  • Gathers data according to the Department of Education State and Federal requirements.
  • Patriciates in continuing professional education to increase and update skills.
  • Consults with the appropriate LEA staff regarding specific student needs to facilitate greater student participation and academic achievement in the school system.
  • Identifies and assists in obtaining additional funding opportunities.
  • Annually implemented the district curriculum cycle in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Recommend changes in curriculum and policy based on data and research.
  • Actively develop and maintain networks with educational leaders in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at the state, regional and national levels.
  • Meet regularly with building principals, the Superintendent, and other administrative personnel to ensure coordination of curriculum efforts.
  • Serve as a member of the Administrative Team and Superintendent’s Cabinet.
  • Upon request observe teachers in their classrooms and offer insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation.
  • Guide Administrators and teachers in the improvement of instructional delivery and performance through a systematic approach to coaching, feedback, and job-embedded professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in curriculum and instruction or administration from an accredited college or university
  • Iowa Administrative Endorsement or ability to obtain prior to contract start
  • Iowa Evaluator Certification or ability to obtain prior to contract start
  • At least 3 years of leadership, and/or administrative experience with previous experience as a principal or district administrator strongly preferred
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating meetings and staff development experiences
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Knowledgeable of multiple forms of assessment
  • Strong communication including writing and speaking
  • Knowledge of continuous school improvement planning, goal setting, and systems thinking
