This is a Full Time position.

As the Director of Materials Management, your primary responsibility is to oversee the procurement and management of all medical supplies and equipment used in the hospital, while also managing the performance of your team members. You will play a critical role in ensuring that the hospital has adequate supplies to meet the needs of patients and staff, while also managing costs and maintaining a high level of quality.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Supervising and managing the performance of your team, including setting goals, providing feedback, and coaching your team members to ensure they meet their targets.
  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies: You will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies to ensure that the hospital has the necessary supplies and equipment at the best possible prices.
  • Managing inventory levels: You will need to monitor inventory levels and ensure that the hospital has the appropriate levels of supplies and equipment to meet the demands of patients and staff. This involves forecasting demand, ordering supplies, and managing stock levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts.
  • Coordinating with other departments: You will need to work closely with other departments, such as nursing, surgery, and maintenance, to ensure that they have the necessary supplies and equipment to perform their duties.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations: You will need to ensure that all procurement activities are in compliance with state and federal regulations, including regulations related to procurement, storage, and distribution of medical supplies.
  • Managing vendor relationships: You will need to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate favorable terms and ensure timely delivery of supplies.
  • Managing the budget: You will need to manage the budget for the materials management department, ensuring that expenses are in line with budget constraints.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures: You will need to develop and implement policies and procedures related to procurement, inventory management, and distribution of medical supplies.
  • Ensuring quality control: You will need to ensure that all medical supplies and equipment meet the hospital's standards for quality and safety.

Overall, the Materials Management Director plays a critical role in ensuring that the hospital has the necessary supplies and equipment to provide high-quality care to patients, while also managing the performance of their team members. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and attention to detail.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: This position requires completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a closely related field. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 3 years of current materials management experience is required. Experience in the health care industry is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in procurement and inventory management of medical supplies and devices, preferably in a hospital materials management setting, is preferred. Experience with automated materials management information systems necessary. Position requires thorough knowledge of accepted practices in the purchase of supplies, awareness of federal, state, and JCAHO regulations as they relate to the procurement, storage and use of medical materials. Must be familiar with the maintenance requirements of various types of medical equipment, leasing vs. purchasing rationales, stockless, and just-in-time concepts. Exposure to Friesen concepts in hospital operations is highly desirable. Customer service skills, detail orientation, and financial acuity are also required
